From the manufacturer
Play as your favorite characters and defend the wizarding world from evil forces. Enhance your abilities as you build your deck with over 140 cards. Seven successive game adventures offer increasing difficulty as you battle Villains and unlock new abilities, secrets and challenges. Also included are four Hogwarts house dice, game board, over 50 chip pieces, and sorting cards to keep everything organized.
The forces of evil are threatening to overrun Hogwarts castle in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle, a cooperative deck-building game, and it's up to four students to ensure the safety of the school by defeating villains and consolidating their defenses. In the game, players take on the role of a Hogwarts student: Harry, Ron, Hermione or Neville, each with their own personal deck of cards that's used to acquire resources.
By gaining influence, players add more cards to their deck in the form of iconic characters, spells, and magical items. Other cards allow them to regain health or fight against villains, keeping them from gaining power. The villains set back players with their attacks and Dark Arts. Only by working together will players be able to defeat all of the villains, securing the castle from the forces of evil.

If you love Harry Potter you’ll love this.
This starts when you open the box. Great art work and fantastically themed.
I recommend stating with story one box. Don’t be tempted as a sessioned gamer to go straight in at game 3. This help build up how the mechanics work and enables none deck builder players to get on to the way to play.
Don’t be fooled by the Battle for Hogwarts title, it’s all about the story from the beginning.
I love the fact it is a co-op game so all the team fight the villains. Great family vibe, and good to strategise together.
Love the fact that each character is designed to have a different role within the team.
Love the pacing of each individual game (could be 2-3 hours) and the whole game, which is spread over 7 increasingly difficult stages.
Love the way the complexity slowly build but isn't too much.
Love the phyical quality of the cards/pieces etc.
Love the 'generosity'-so many spells, monsters etc.
If in doubt, buy it. I would suggest ages 8 and above if they have a good concentration span.
Was slightly reluctant to buy as was very expensive, but so glad we did! We are upto game 4 & loving being able to play a game at a time.
We have not been able to put this game down, we play every night and have already progressed to game 4. I could not recommend this enough for anyone interested in harry potter or someone new to deck building games as this would be a great introduction and help you learn the rules over time.
I was missing to compotents (which were easy to replace by contacting the makers) but as a whole the cards are relatively cheaply made and do not even have uniform protective coating (some cards are not protectively coated at all) which gives a visible difference in appearance.
Those with any experience at all of card games will realise how unmatched card backs can affect a game.
I do plan to play the game plenty more but I am already worried about wear and tear...
The difficulty scales really well, and is suitable for younger players too.
