Using filtered water I compared a) unfiltered b) filtered through lighter coloured Hario filter and c) filtered through these darker ones. The filters were first pre-rinsed with boiling water.
Yes, when you rinse them the water that flows through is a slightly darker brown. But after rinsing no one in my family could tell the difference - the water colour was the same and definitely no taste difference.
As far as I'm concerned I'm happy to use these after a pre-rinse with boiled water which also warms my cup.
I have tried both , and i prefer the taste of coffee using these.
I always rinse out with the hot water from the kettle first.
I think the coffee just taste more pure coffee like without anything else.
Could be just psychological (but the white are bleached paper aren't they?)
Why am I sharing this you may ask, it appears to impact the flavour of the coffee
