Product Description

Wall Street meets Sons of Anarchy in Hard Rules, the smouldering, scorching first novel in the explosively sexy Dirty Money series from New York Times bestseller Lisa Renee Jones, author of the Inside Out series, which Kirkus Reviews calls: 'Angst-y, sexy contemporary romance with big emotional and financial stakes set against the backdrop of two dynamic families. Sure to leave readers desperate for the next installment'.

How bad do you want it?

The only member of the Brandon empire with a moral compass, Shane Brandon is ready to make his family's business legitimate. His ruthless brother Derek wants to keep Brandon Enterprises cemented in lies, deceit and corruption. But the harder Shane fights to pull the company back into the light, the darker he has to become. Then he meets Emily Stevens, a woman who not only stirs a voracious sexual need in him, but becomes the only thing anchoring him between good and evil.

Emily is consumed by an all-encompassing passion for Shane. She trusts him. He trusts her, but therein lies the danger. Because Emily has a secret - the very thing that brought her to him in the first place - and that secret could destroy them both.

Are you ready to play by the hard rules of the Brandon family empire? Look for the next enthralling novel in the Dirty Money series, Damage Control.

I am sure my moods play a huge part in weather I like a book or not, I had a really bad week and was in a sad and somber mood which matched this books pace.
I really liked this story and its characters but I totally understand why some people had problems with it. It was a bit slow, there was not enough descriptive sex in it, the whole secret thing that Emily was hiding for the entire book, that we still did not have answers for and my god that prologue!! I mean WTF?? It was of different people and the only references to the story were sports drugs/cartel. So unless I am missing something why was it there at all?

After getting the negative out of the way, some positives. I loved the family drama in this book, not knowing who we should trust or go for. I thought the character development was good and the writing felt mature if that even makes sense. Emily is strong and independent and seems to get even stronger near the end. I fell for the secretary Jessica her spunk and I do as I want attitude was welcoming but of course for me the winner is Shane that man got me all sorts of HOT.
For me this was a beginning of a well laid out family drama that I look forward in continuing.

Oh what a tangled web we weave....

I wasn't sure what to expect with Hard Rules, but what we got was a web of lies, deceit, betrayal - and that is just the people in the Brandon family!

Big business means big money and big troubles for Shane Brandon - fighting to keep his business clean, fighting his father and brother.

Ugh, so much fighting and bitterness. I wanted to get them all into a room together and slap some sense into them all.

Emily is the light in all Shane's darkness. A chance encounter, a night together should be all they are to each other. But the fates have more in store for them.

#Shamily is so much more.

It was hard to know who to trust, who to believe in all of this story. Just when you think you know who the good guy is, the story takes a turn that was not expected.

I adored how Shane and Emily fought to be true to each other, to know each other - or did they?

Hard Rules is full of heat and suspense, and I was left with more questions and answers at the end.

I hope we don't have too long to wait to find out more.

One thing though - I don't really get the Sons of Anarchy references in the teasers and blurbs. Maybe it is just me, but it didn't really seem to fit?

I really liked the hot and steamy relationship between Shane and Emily, especially when they were on their own. They definitely got each other and you could feel that in the writing.
A chance meeting in a coffee shop introduces you to the two main characters, Shane and Emily, and a chance meeting again in the building where Shane works starts the supposed one night stand.
Shane is a wealthy lawyer that comes back home to his fathers company to help run after finding out he's dying of cancer. Emily is a mysteries girl running away from a past that you never get to find out because the book is left on a cliff hanger much to my dismay!!
I really found this book hard to get into and maybe it was just me but I found it too hard to grip the story and keep me interested it never really told the story it jumped about a bit and went on about too many mis loyalties within the company.
For me it just didn't grab me, I can only hope book two is not too long awaited and will give me answers.....?!
