I don't understand the hype around this book. Giovanna tries very hard to come across as "just like you" but it's hard to square that with her private health care, celeb friends she constantly name-drops, holidays etc.
Perhaps most frustratingly for me, her account of her first birth varies at different points of the book, from her having this "amazing" analgesia-free hypnobirthing water birth to later on having had an episiotomy because she was advised by her doctor that it was the best thing for baby. Difficult to understand how these can both have happened, and for me this sort of loose interpretation of facts makes it very difficult to take anything she says seriously.
Feels very much as if she is jumping on the bandwagon of motherhood not being easy, but for me just comes across insincere. Parts of the book are tedious in the extreme, and basically an account of things that happened to her with little attempt to inject humour or real reflection. If you are after a slightly self-absorbed celeb diary of motherhood then you'll be happy, if you were expecting something with any real soul, point of view, or practical advice then I fear you will be disappointed.

This is a lovely book, Giovanna writes in a friendly style and shares her personal experiences of motherhood. However the regular name dropping of people and brands was a little irritating and distracting.

I did enjoy reading this book but as a new mum I feel some more gruesome parts were glossed over. For example she described her hypnobirth as this amazing thing but later on mentions she had an episiotomy which seemed a bit misleading. I got better more honest feedback from close friends if I'm honest. But it is a nice light hearted read.

Not just a book, it’s a lifeline when you’ve had a baby.

I read this before having a baby, which I was so glad about! It gave me an insight to motherhood. What to expect and not to put too much pressure on myself, my baby is 12 weeks old now and I always think happy mum, happy baby! It works! Listen to the ‘Happy mum, Happy baby’ podcast also, when I go for walks with baby, I smile away and relate so so much to what Giovanna and her guests are saying. They have helped me through some dark times after having baby and I’m so grateful to her for sharing stories so you don’t feel alone. Big big thank you!!

Not great

I have been watching Giovanna on the Baby club on cbbc and following her on Instagram for a while so I thought I’d read her book. I was disappointed. It’s a long ramble of a book that sounds like she’s dictated it to a friend who has written down every since word. It’s shifts back and forth and loses its thread as she writes and it generally just left me thinking what was the point of this book?
