No-one’s marriage is perfect and this book isn’t designed to perfect yours either. Chapman offers tips and tricks that work. His successful 22 year marriage along with four children, a business, and an active pastoral ministry are evidence that these tips work. It’s a simple 3 prong approach to (re-)building intimacy in a marriage. What’s not to love?
Who is this book for? I’ve been married 6 years and my wife and I now live with 2 toddlers/terrorists who run our lives. Whilst I can see why this book might be useful for a newly-married person (or even in the pre-marriage season), the true value is not found while you’re in that honeymoon season. The Happy Marriage finds its best audience in the married people who don’t have time to read anything thicker or wordier than this book: those going through real life, with the distractions piling up, those tempted to take their partner for granted. This book combats everything meant by the old saying “familiarity breeds contempt”; the antidote to that contempt is intimacy. Even if your marriage is great (and I like to think mine already is) these three steps will help you identify ways to be more intimate with your partner.
