The manufacturers have changed the design so that the new models are without any pegs on the left side of the instrument.
The new model is also without metal strips protecting the wood over which the strings are stretched.
As the product I received was different from the model pictured both on Amazon and on the box it came in, I thought I'd been sent a faulty model, and contacted the Chinese manufacturers. They say that the new design makes it sound better. The manufacturers are very decent and sent me a replacement, but the replacement was pegless down the left side too.
The lack of pegs to the left side and lack of protective strips means that the taught strings dig into the wood (see photo), which over time might be a problem. However, the instrument does stay in tune very well and the nylon strings sound beautiful. I was very skeptical at first, but now I'll give it a 5 star rating even though I'm still not sure about the strings digging in, but so far I am surprised to be very pleased with it and now, after a few weeks, I feel I can recommend it!
As far as I am aware, this is the only nylon strung little zither/harp available and it's delightful.
