How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Deus ex machina
Reviewed in Germany on 29 July 2020Verified Purchase
It's okay that the author lends most of his story from Robin Hood and The Lord of Rings but it's really annoying that the story line sticks regularly in dead ends and that the autor's only solution is to rely on deus ex machina (an unkown tribe fights invincible head hunters, a friendly sailor pays for the protagonist's debts and ferries him for free, when no one is able to find a lost king our protagonists stumbles right over him by pure coincidence, an almighty god ignored by the most chooses the protagonist as his arm on earth).

Instead of the "Oh, hum," of another series, this Dragon King series is engaging and addictive

Another great Lawhead book
Reviewed in the United States on 13 December 2016Verified Purchase
Lawhead is a great writer. My 12 year old loves this book. Highly recommend. This is all subjective of course but i think Lawhead is one of the better writers out there - clean and moral to boot. I don't have to worry about my kids reading his books.

Good story.
Reviewed in the United States on 30 July 2013Verified Purchase
It was a good story. I liked the adventure, and the overall story. I thought the characters were all a little similar though.
I didn't like the theology that is present in it, not because it is theology but because it is bad theology. I understand that it is completely a fiction book so there's no need to have good theology since it's a made up world. But I believe one reason books exist is to help us get through the real world well. What I did not like was that it portrayed finding the will of God very mystically. The characters would base God's will off of feelings they felt, or signs they interpreted. Again, this is fiction so that's okay, but I prefer to read books that reflect solid truth in this area.
It was definitely a good story though, so I still give 4 stars.
