A SUNDAY TIMES TOP 5 BESTSELLER
LONGLISTED FOR THE SAMUEL JOHNSON PRIZE 2014
SHORTLISTED FOR THE FT BUSINESS BOOK OF THE YEAR AWARD 2014
SHORTLISTED FOR THE ORWELL PRIZE 2015

At first, it seemed like a small story. The royal correspondent of the News of the World was cuaght listening in on Buckingham Palace voicemails. He was quietly sent to prison and the case was closed.

But Nick Davies felt sure there was a lot more going on.

And he was right.

Hack Attack is the definitive inside story of one of the major scandals of our age, told by the man who exposed it. Davies and a network of rebel lawyers, MPs and celebrities took on Rupert Murdoch, one of the most powerful men in the world, and in bringing him down they uncovered a world of crime and cover-up reaching from the newsroom to Scotland Yard and to Downing Street.

This is the story of a network of corruption rooted deep within our society, and how it was dragged into the light.

'This has all the elements - lying, corruption, blackmail - at the highest levels of government by the biggest newspaper in London' GEORGE CLOONEY

This book is incredibly detailed and maintains interest all the way. It helps if you are familiar with some of the real life participants in this long saga of phone hacking. I had a bit of an issue keeping up with some of the police involved as they were not reported enough in my media here in Australia, however as the owner of News of the World is Rupert Murdoch and as he owns so much of the media in Australia, that is not surprising. Nick Davie's writing is succinct, factual and very thorough and even though it is difficult to put down, I had to take a few breaks from reading it as it is quite complex to consume all in one reading. This should be compulsory reading for anyone interested in the news, it shows how power corrupts and how those in power have absolute contempt for those not prepared to stoop to their low level of ethics of condoning illegal actions to obtain a story. A really, really good read.

I had no idea how pervasive was the corruption surrounding these events before reading this account. I am appalled at how public opinion and the behavior of public servants and politicians are manipulated by the press. Nick Davies has written a thoroughly approachable account which I couldn't put down.

He thoroughly detailed the hacking scandal. Makes you realise how powerful the press xan be and that anything goes to get a story.

An excellent journalistic account of the Murdoch press influences. Chilling as you realise how this philosophy has infiltrated all aspects of political life across the western world - depressing!
