I found this book to be a fast paced read, which quickly grips the reader and sweeps them up into the journey of Jacob, a young religious man who leaves his home town to travel to the Gulf Coast City of the title. Jacob's experiences in Florida are well described and present the reader with some exciting and challenging situations, some of which really made me think. Although Jacob is religious and there are frequent biblical quotations throughout the book with which I was not familiar, I found that these did not detract from the story, which I read through in just a couple of sittings as the novel really encourages you to turn the next page. I look forward to the next book from this author.

Gulf Coast City starts off with a bang, when a young by-the-book pastor, Jacob, experiences a violent crime where his family is the victim. From here on, this action-packed novel follows Jacob into the seedy underbelly of Gulf Coast City, which contains all the sins imaginable and houses the most dangerous or conniving criminals.
The fascination for me was reading as the simple-minded Jacob descends into the madness of his new surroundings, and how what at first glance looked so foreign and beneath him became an area where he soon learns to not only survive in, but become one member of the community.
This story starts at 100 mph and doesn't let up, with a healthy dose of shady characters and plot twists to keep the reader holding on for the ride.
