Product Description

EVERYONE REMEMBERS THEIR FIRST LOVE...
BUT SOMETIMES IT'S THE SECOND LOVE THAT LASTS

"Evocative and heartfelt, The Guestbook is the profound story of one woman's journey toward hope, renewal and a second chance at love on a lush Pacific Northwest island. Curl up with your favorite cup of cocoa and enjoy."
~Anjali Banerjee - author of Imaginary Men and Haunting Jasmine said about this women's fiction romance

This book weaves together the heart of Nicholas Sparks, the romance of Nora Roberts, and the charm of Debbie Macomber.

Fleeing her picture-perfect marriage among the privileged set of Brentwood and the wreckage of a failed marriage, Lily Parkins decides to move to the only place that still holds happy memories, her grandmother’s old farmhouse. The lush and majestic setting of the Pacific Northwest calls to her and offers a place of refuge and perhaps renewal. Her grandmother has passed away, leaving the Madrona Island Bed & Breakfast Inn to Lily.

Left with only an old guestbook as her guide–a curious book full of letters, recipes, and glimpses into her family history–Lily is determined to embrace her newfound independence and recreate herself, one page at a time. With the help of the quirky island residents she has befriended, she slowly finds the strength to seek out happiness on her own terms. But as soon as she has sworn off men and is standing on her own two feet, Lily meets Ian, the alluring artist who lives next door, and her new life is suddenly thrown off course. The last thing she wants to do right now is to open her heart to another man.

Ultimately, Lily must decide if it’s worth giving up her soul for security or risking everything to follow her heart in this romantic love story.

The Guestbook is the first book in the Madrona Island Series. www.andreahurst-author.com TEA & COMFORT - book two is available April 7, 2015

This was a beautiful story of remaking your life after a few bumps in the road. The story was well told and a perfect read to escape reality for a day or two. Bonus was the recipe list at the end! A lovely surprise after reading the novel whilst wishing I had those recipes and now I do! I'll be looking forward to the next 'chapter' in the series.

I don't normally read this style book but really enjoyed the characters and will definitely be reading no 2

5.0 out of 5 stars Cookies! Characters! Charm! 21 January 2014

The Guestbook
By
Andrea Hurst

My "in a nutshell" summary...

Lily discovers that she has a cheating husband. She escapes to her grandmother's bed and breakfast on Madrona Island...to heal and regroup.

My thoughts after reading this book...

This book has everything that a book like this should have. A cheating dastardly evil insensitive husband...did I say controlling...Brad is very controlling. In fact his role as the bad guy is awesome...he is the guy you love to hate. When Lily...his trophy wife...realizes that he is cheating...she leaves her perfect L.A. Life and heads to the inn she inherited from her grandmother. The inn is lovely, the neighbors are quirky, and other than being constantly harassed and threatened by Brad...she is trying to rebuild her life. Of course on the ferry to the inn she sees a drop dead gorgeous stranger who turns out to be her neighbor. He is raising a young son on his own and they are attracted to each other from the start. But in denial...lol!

In the mean time...quirky neighbors visit, Lily learns how to start a fire, Brad keeps threatening her and cutting off her access to money and Lily has to use her culinary skills to find a way to make a living! All the while she is reading her grandmother's guest book and searching for her grandmother's famous brownie recipe!

What I loved about this book...

Hmmm...that's easy! I loved almost everything...the sexy bits were tasteful, the food was mouth watering, and I truly wanted to be there. There was enough drama to keep me reading at a fast pace...I did not want to put this book down.

Final thoughts...

I found this to be a lovely book with interesting characters. Lots of people seemed to come to Madrona Island because they were hiding from their pasts. This book is the first of a series and the next two books will focus on major characters in this book who were friends of Lily's and who each have secrets of their own. Yum!

1.0 out of 5 stars Please do some research 18 April 2014

As I feel it is cheating to review a book you haven't finished, I slogged through the constant errors on content and continuity, the many typos and through every possible trite cliché to get to the predictable finale.

However, of all the mistakes, the most grievous is your portrayal of Lupus.

I live with SLE, the worst kind of the disease, and know better than anyone that it is NOT fatal, nor is it a combination of stage four cancer and AIDS as you have written.

It's obvious from the blurbs on your next two books that you have done those of us with Lupus a grave disservice.

Please research Lupus, edit the typos and correct the continuity errors.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Story 7 March 2014

Nice story but I prefer my "fluff romance" sex scenes to be a little less graphic with more left to the imagination.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet delight to the senses 25 August 2012

This is a story that captured every sense engaging the reader from the first page. With savory recipes that made my mouth water, elegant descriptions of the Pacific Northwest which made me remember why I love living there, and a story that filled the soul, I loved this book.
But the five senses were not the only things stimulated by this novel. The author, Andrea Hurst, also captivated me with the sweet, yet realistic characters and their heart-felt, emotional journeys. For me it is the characters and their relationships, their life-lessons, which make or break the story, and this novel definitely made it!
I highly recommend this book to those who love a good romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect escape read!!!! 1 August 2012
By Lyrical Days - Published on Amazon.com
I honestly did not know what to expect with this book, but what an exciting surprise!
The Guestbook by Andrea Hurst is jam packed with hidden treasures along with a compelling story.
The descriptions of the flowers, the mountains, the sky, the animals, and the FOOD were poetic and made me feel like I could actually smell and taste the foods and feel the nature around me.
I personally love Lilly's story of recovery after a bad marriage.
She is strong, creative, and an inspiration to all women who have to restart their lives.
I recommended it to all of my friends.
Hopefully this will become a series because I miss the island and the brownies already!!!
