Product Description

Sierra has a stalker.

They're watching. Waiting. Biding their time. But for what, she doesn't want to find out. Thankfully, she knows just who to call.

Blake has never been one to sit still. He's still recovering from the gunshot he received during his last job with Soldiering On, but he's not about to let that stop him from protecting a woman in need. Besides, he has to prove to his boss that he's still capable, or he'll be forced into his worst nightmare: a desk job.

But neither of them count on their explosive sexual chemistry. Apart, they risk endangering Sierra's life. But together, there might be an even deeper threat...to their hearts.

Guarding Sierra is about Sierra Livingston a high-powered attorney who suspects she is being stalked. She contacts Duncan's Soldiering On agency to hire a body guard. Blake is desperate to get back to work despite his slow recovery from a wound he suffered in an earlier case. He pushes himself to prove he is up to the task, but despite Mandy and Duncan's misgivings, they enlist him to protect Sierra.
Needless to say, sparks fly and Blake and Sierra leap over professional boundaries into bed for some steamy romance. Filled with action and romance, the lovers must overcome the blurred lines of what's acceptable between client and body guard. Well-written, with interesting characters, Guarding Sierra manages to entertain from beginning to end.

Wow, what a powerful to start this thriller-romance! A trail of dark red rose petals outside Sierra's apartment so simply and beautifully sets up a menacing start to this book.

“Guarding Sierra” is the third story in Aislinn Kearns’ Soldiering On series. I love the premise of this series - highly accomplished ex veterans that return home and then have to deal with the physical and mental trauma of war. However, in all of that they find adventure, purpose and love.

I was expecting great characters, suspense and delicious romantic tension because I had read, and so enjoyed Station Alpha. Kearns didn't disappoint with this sequel. Blake and Sierra are terrific characters. Sierra is successful lawyer in her fathers law firm. The fact that it's her father's firm doesn't necessarily work in her favour - there are some real douchebags in the office who try to undermine her at every turn.

Blake is a charming heroic figure. He treads carefully, so unsure of acting on his attraction to Sierra because of the frightening situation she finds herself in.

Kearns has a delightful sense of humor, which pops up in moments and descriptions that are surprising and fun. She is intriguing in her suggestions of non-conventional gender stereotypes. Quite refreshing.

This is for those of us who love action movies and romance. This book, and this series, is a treat.

5.0 out of 5 stars A captivating book and a brilliant addition to the Soldering On series 3 February 2017

Aislinn Kearns has done the impossible. She has turned me into a romantic suspense addict.
Guarding Sierra is a time honoured tale of a woman requiring protection to keep her safe. But the difference in Guarding Sierra is in its authenticity, its charter development, and its believability.
Blake isn't a billionaire who somehow also managed to become a Navy SEAL in his spare time (or is it the other way around?) as is often the case. He is a wounded soldier, trying to find his place in the world while overcoming real physical limitations that impact his core values, particularly his masculinity, his sense of self worth, and his confidence. He is endearing, and Aislinn's skilful hand writes him with grace and skill. Sierra is equally well developed, genuine and captivating.
In Guarding Sierra, Aislinn has once again done a magnificent job of creating realistic characters, a dramatic story, authentic dialogue and nail-biting suspense. I was also pleased to see that book continues to develop the relationship between Mandy and Duncan.
Another one in the to-be-read-again pile.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wounded warriors: Promising author launches new book in romantic suspense series 24 October 2016

+++ I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reading copy of this book provided by the author +++

“Guarding Sierra” is the third story in Aislinn Kearns’ series Soldiering On, about a security firm formed by ex-veterans. Blake, the optimistic and funny guy of the group, is the hero, and Sierra, a lawyer, the heroine.
I was expecting this story with anticipation and it didn’t disappoint. Its strongest point is the hero and the relationships between characters.
Blake is a wonderful character, built like a grown-up kid with the sense of responsibility of an adult but the impulsiveness and restlessness of a much younger man. I think there’s a touch of hyperactivity or ADHD in his character, but it all contributes to make him very boyish and charming. The suffering hidden behind this restlessness adds depth to the character. I also liked the twist of his general sexual orientation, but I would have liked to have seen this trait more developed, I was expecting more.
Even with the SEAL prowess I thought Blake’s exceptional resistance was too much, given that he has only one hand and an injured shoulder.
“Guarding Sierra” is a regular romantic suspense story with a good mixture between the two, and, as usual, I found myself wanting more romance and less suspense. The book begins with a powerful and perfectly structured scene that hooks you for the rest of the story.
It’s also interesting to have a solid friendship between two main female characters, which is not very common. And to meet again the Soldiering On members, although the interaction Duncan/Mandy was not as exciting as in the first books.
So, I’m waiting for the “Christmas Tango”, a Duncan and Mandy novella….

4.0 out of 5 stars Real and fresh 5 December 2016

Sierra is a hardworking woman on the rise who doesn't get the respect she deserves. As she's trying to make it to the top at the firm she works at, she suddenly has to deal with a murderous stalker out to get her. To ensure her safety, Sierra hires a bodyguard. Enters Blake, a cool hero with something to prove to his boss (and himself).

Okay, one thing first, I'm a romance reader junkie and I've devoured too many FBI/security guards romance novels to count. This is the only book that I can remember (I'm writing this at 2 in the morning so I MIGHT be wrong about this) that felt realistic with regards to the potential breach of ethics or of work policies that take place when it comes someone in law enforcement or in security starting something with a client he is supposed to protect. In a lot of novels the hero just jumps into bed with the heroine and everyone, including his supervisors, are completely fine with that. Not this one. GUARDING SIERRA is as realistic as it comes while still managing to hold on to the romance. My first book by this author was a Christmas Novella and I felt that since it was sold a standalone, it lacked romance the cover made me expect. This one delivered. It had heat and sweetness. I would have liked a bit more romance a bit earlier on but I don't think it would have fit with the (hesistant) personality of the characters and thus wouldn't have been organic.

Skip this one if you really want a lot of cutesy moments. Definitely buy if you want a well written, mysterious suspense romance with a very cool break in/hacking action scene, good dialogue, and real and complex characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great book! 3 March 2017

Another great book from the Soldiering On series. I really do love all the characters and how we still see each character from other books. And I'm patiently waiting for Duncan and Mandy's book because I really, really like those two. I enjoyed Blake and his upbeat attitude about life. He's just a carefree guy and it was refreshing. Sierra was a strong woman. I do love strong woman. I have to say, though, she made some decisions that irked me sometimes. I just wanted to yell into the book and say, "Listen to Blake!" Overall, a really great read. Can't wait to read Christmas Tango and Dangerous Victor!
