This light is fantastic but please do not listen to the manufacturer’s stupid instructions about keeping the light 12 to 18 inches from the tops on full power during flowering. You will cook your legally grown medical buds. Everything above the canopy will change color and become dry and woody and you will be very disappointed.
This light is way too powerful when it’s cranked all the way up to be that close to your plants. Keep it more than twenty inches away from the tops of your plants at full power and watch them carefully. Your plants will get plenty of light especially if you are using a 2x2 foot tent or one close in size to that.
I had this light in a 27” x 27” tent and then in a 24”x24” tent. It is a little wide for a 2x2. The sides of your tent will poke out a little bit, but using a light meter I noticed the remaining plant was getting more light in the smaller tent with the light the same distance from the highest bud. Reflected light matters and you get more of that traveling shorter distances in a smaller tent. But the 27” x 27” is a great size. Maybe a 3x3 would work but you’re not going to have super light intensity. That’s too much space. Nine square feet would make it only a hair over 24 watts per square foot. You really need more for flowering but maybe your autoflowers would do okay.
The driver does get quite hot. You will extend its life if you have one of those small tent pole fans above the light blowing on the driver. LEDs may last a long time but drivers burn out. That why LED bulbs tend to have short life spans when you put them in enclosed fixtures. Meanwell is a great brand of driver though and of course Samsung LM301b chips are great. This thing is made from great parts. It’s a great deal.
Just know that this thing will cook your plants at full power if you let it get too close and too close is less than twenty inches depending on the strain. Some can handle more intensity and heat than others. Sativa dominant strains can usually handle more heat and light intensity for instance. I had three strains and the biggest most sativa looking plant handled the light better and sustained the least damage. Fourteen inches was the closest I let anything get to the light. I got a quarter pound off of three teeny tiny plants I bent over and tied down and kept trained close to the ground, but the buds were cooked to death. It wasn’t just pretty fall colors after all, all that purple and brown.
One didn’t finish until later. When I raised the light it started growing again like crazy but there was foxtailing which is a sign of heat or light stress. I ended up keeping the light 23” above the tallest bud by the end. Don’t know yield yet but it will be a lot more than the others which produced a heck of a lot for being autoflowers 8 or 9 inches tall. The biggest one was a little over ten inches tall by the end. I think I stunted them having the light too close and messing up on everything else too, nutrient lockout, ph problems, every other stupid mistake a first timer makes.
My cancer will probably kill me before I could finish another grow. It’s bad. I’m not even going to try. Don’t need to. Glad I bought this light though. It helped me cross one more thing off my bucket list. It did great, totally worth $161 or whatever it cost.
