5.0 out of 5 stars Sara Wickham's latest book ticks all the boxes
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 May 2019
As a childbirth educator working for the NCT and myself, I need to be up to date with current issues that may affect the parents attending my courses. Group B Strep comes up quite regularly and is a very difficult topic to cover in a short time. It took me just over 4 hours to read this updated version of Sara's book, and it beautifully set out what I know, what I need to know, and thus will help me to answer parents questions and meet their concerns as they crop up. I need to be able to summarise the issues in a balanced way to help parents navigate their journey through this particular part of pregnancy informed decision making; Sara's calm, concise and balanced setting out of the facts will be a great help. I have all of Sara's little books, in some cases three incarnations, ie Induction and Birthing your Placenta; and have been a follower of her wise words since my first brush with the reaction women sometimes experience when declining an intervention in pregnancy. Through the Association for Improvement in Maternity Services (AIMS) I found the kind of information and support that would help me, including Sara's writings. I am now in the position of supporting daughters and daughters-in-law as they have their babies. The screening tests and decisions they have to make are far more complex than when I had my four children. As ever, I will have Sara Wickham's books by my side as we navigate this difficult journey, the Group B Strep one in particular will be useful to us. I don't think many parents who do my courses will read the whole book through in the same avid way that I do - but many may dip into it - and having it beside me gives me the means to enable them to look at the issues without bias, and with the back up of up to date and relevant references. Thank you Sara!
