This film has got to be one of the strangest, most aimless pieces of junk I have seen in years. You have an aristocrat (Bates) in a deteriorating estate who is obsessed with proving something about dinosaurs to a moribund scientific society. His marriage to an American heiress (Russel) is empty, though they have a beautiful is somewhat clueless daughter (Hedley) who wants to marry a penniless poet. Enter an evil butler (Sting) and his alcoholic wife, and you have a recipe for murder, of course.
The British eccentricity of the characters is supposed to be funny, but it is completely flat. The acting is wooden and lifeless, which is a surprise given the quality of the cast. There isn't even an interesting atmosphere. Finally, the story is preposterously stupid, leaving many unexplained occurrences that are not worth figuring out.
