This was a difficult book to like I hate to be negative but I found that the emotion and passion between the two leads was not well projected to the reader, I just wasn't feeling it. Xandro did not seem to take no for an answer and Ilana just came across as a bit of a wimp. The other woman interested in Xandro was unbelievable and added nothing to the story. Ilana has a secret in her past which catches up with her. That was the only bit of excitement in the whole book. Not a keeper IMO .
But... First off, the h gets ripped off by the wanna-be OW and doesn't do anything about it. Just gives in, instead of filing charges for theft. And in the meantime the h doesn't go straight to the police and report the first assault from the ex-fiancée. There are bruises so there is definitely evidence of an assault. And naturally she won't tell the H what is going on, which is really REALLY dumb. And it goes on like this ad nauseum.
Bianchin likes to do the crazy OW thing a lot so this was sort of a hallmark of her work. I could be OK with that if there was ever any resolution, but the OW just disappears and nothing actually gets resolved. What was somewhat more unusual was the presence and craziness of the ex. He was definitely psycho and needed to be in jail for the assaults, too.
So all in all, not her best.
Happy ending, interesting characters. Recommend the author and the book.
Another really annoying aspect about this book was the H's ability to constantly provide an answer to the h's thoughts. She thought it- he answered her. Seriously?.
The H was okay but very overpowering and therefore very unbelievable. While his actions were always the protect the h, I don't see his dominance to be admirable. Especially when the h was coming out of an abusive relationship only to be completely bossed around and have her life taken over by the H. While she wasn't exactly a doormat in that she always put up a fight- it was always futile as he got his way never-the-less
The Segway into their undying love -while romantic- was a tad bit hard to buy into.
Overall- its one of those books that you read while forcing the pages to get better.
Most of Helen's books I like. This one - not so much
