This book confirmed for me why it is important to build skills in any field. Every student should read this before starting their work life. And everyone in the workforce should read it to gain a new perspective on why some people succeed and the rest of us don't. I am putting Cal's advice to practice (his guidelines make it easy to implement in any field) and I have told my children to read this book.
Reading this was a tad depressing for me as I haven't followed the rules outlined here. As a consequence, my career has suffered. For a younger person, or someone early in their career, this book has solid advice with case studies to back it up. Like many books of this genre, it is easy to say 'thats all common sense', but it is well written and easy to read. Wish I had read it 30 years ago.
