A lovely translation perhaps not as good as the penguin edition but the illustrations more than make up for that. This is one of the best books ever written and being one the only surviving 'novel' from the period everyone should read it as many of the stories and the framing devices ae still ued in today's literature. It also forms the basis for Boccaccio's Decameron and is similar in structure to 1001 nights.

This is 2nd century AD sex and drugs and rock'n'roll.
I'll echo the previous reviews by saying that this is great fun and a really engaging read. The notes are excellent too which really helps in a work like this, drawing out many allusions.
Poetry is often said to be lost in translation but the translator has captured a real sense of the Latin while retaining the fluency of the English.
