About the Author

Jane Caro is a woman known for saying what's on her mind. Her low-boredom threshold level has seen her embrace many careers; she is a novelist, lecturer, mentor, social commentator, columnist, workshop facilitator, speaker, broadcaster and award-winning advertising writer.

Her books include: The Stupid Country: How Australia is Dismantling Public Education, co-authored with Chris Bonnor, The F Word. How we learned to swear by feminism, co-authored with Catherine Fox, Just a Girl, a YA novel about the young Queen Elizabeth I; What Makes a Good School? co-authored with Chris Bonnor and, with Pan Macmillan, For God's Sake! An atheist, Christian, Jew and Muslim battle it out, co-authored with Antony Lowenstein, Simon Smart and Rachel Woodlock.

She is a popular public speaker and a weekly regular on Channel Seven's Weekend Sunrise and Mornings on Channel Nine. She has appeared frequently on ABC's Q&A and The Drum, Channel Nine's Sunrise and Channel Ten's The Project. She is also a regular panellist on the ABC's top-rating show on advertising The Gruen Transfer. She is also a regular on radio and has filled in as host for RN's iconic Life Matters.

As a freelance copywriter in advertising, she has won many national and international advertising awards including. She writes a regular column in Mt Magazine and contributes articles and opinion pieces to The Sydney Morning Herald, The Drum, The Conversation, Mamamia and New Matilda. She mentors young business people through McCarthy Mentoring. She is on the boards of Bell Shakespeare and the NSW Public Education Foundation. She is also the mother of two daughters, as well as being a wife, a beef producer and a timber grower.

In October 2015, she published with Pan Macmillan her memoir, titled Plain-speaking Jane, wherein she intends to say, often and at length, what's on her mind.
