Product Description

Product Description

Touchstone, the magical theatre troupe, continues to build audiences and wherever they go, worldly success follows. But after an apparent loss in the Trials, the four are chosen to travel from a kingdom populated with Wizards, Elves and Fae, to the continent, where magic is forbidden and non-human races are met with suspicion. As strains within the group threaten to fracture it, playwright Cayden is increasingly troubled by his “elsewhens,” the uncontrolled moments when he is plunged into visions of the death of his closest friend, the troupe's reckless and brilliant glisker, Mieka. Cade fears that his Fae gift will forever taint his friendships, while his friends fear that his increasing distance will destroy him.

I felt this should have been the first book as all (well most) of the explanations needed to understand 'Elsewhens' and much of the character backgrounds are given here.
What kept me reading (Book 1) and going on to buy Glass Thorns (Book 2) was the wonderful characters - from sympathetic to shady and everything in between and beyond, but there was a lot of groaning going on in the background as I read and re-read parts.
What Kindle needs are some editors. Those strange beings who know how to hold and comfort with the left hand, while using the 21st century equivalent of a red pen and muttering 'cut and paste', 'rewrite' etc. I suspect the only known living examples of such valuable and antique creatures are to be found residing in dusty attics in Great Britain.
I love to support writers that are, for me, a new discovery. I'll persevere - up to a point - I just wish they would spend more time redrafting before publishing. I suggest a look at Patrick Rothfuss' blog and a LONG look at the stack of first drafts before The Name of the Wind was published.
Now that's a Writer and *Author* and I'd read anything he publishes and hope the next book comes out soon.
Good luck Ms Rawn, you have raw talent aplenty. Failing an editor, collect 6-10 highly intelligent and well read Readers to go through you first draftSSSS.

This book is a bit like rock band tour meets fantasy. It's well written in many ways but seemed more about the tour than the plot. It takes the whole book to get to the point and then stops - clearly ready for the next volume but I'm not sure if I'll bother with the next one. Not enough action for me.

I love Melanie Rawn's work and "Touchstone" is no exception. Loved this book from beginning to end, its different but in an amazing way and I was swept up in the development of the characters and the storey. I could imagine myself right there. I have started the next book in this series.
