Product description

Review

This gorgeous book is everything I want in a fantasy. Beautiful, lush, lyrical with fantastic world building and an epic forbidden romance, I devoured every word and was left desperately wanting more.

Get ready to be pulled into a lush, magical world, where two concubines must hide their forbidden love if they want to survive the Demon King's treacherous court. A fiery, spellbinding read.

Lei's story is gorgeously woven in Ngan's emotionally nuanced, crystalline prose. This book broke my heart, made me cry, and had me completely spellbound from the first page.

Girls of Paper and Fire is as lush - and brutal - as the Demon King's own court. Ngan is a stunning new talent.

A beautifully written, powerful story unique against all the current YA fantasy out there. You must read this. --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

From the Publisher

Natasha Ngan is part young-adult author, part yoga-teacher, part habitual nap-taker. She grew up between Malaysia and the UK, speaking Chinese with her mother mainly as a way to talk about people without them understanding. She studied Geography at the University of Cambridge and later worked as a fashion blogger, social media consultant and freelance writer. Natasha recently moved to Paris, where she likes to imagine she drifts stylishly from brasserie to brasserie, notepad in one hand and wineglass in the other. In reality, she mostly spends her time lost on the metro and offending locals with her French. --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not amazing but certainly not bad!

I read this book in a day, usually that means that I loved it so much I couldn’t put it down. I tried to love and I really wanted to but I just kinda don’t. The cover was so amazing and became a big part of why It caught my interest. I loved the world and this book definitely had one of the stronger beginnings I’ve come across.
However, it lacks a certain something. The pairing was cute not omg yes these guys have to be together, The plot was a little bland it was a little interesting not OMG I need to know what’s happening now but I don’t want to teach the end, and I felt like there were so many other ways for it to have been developed despite the length not a lot actually happened and the pace wasn’t always satisfying. Where I wanted more information I got less and where basically nothing was happening the same thing was repeated. The characters were just a little meh, perfectly likeable yet I found their descriptions lacking beyond Wren and Lei and the King and even they could use more development.
Thats’s not to say I hated the book because I still made it to the end. For me I think the sequel will decide a lot. If the sequel is amazing then the positives that I can see hints of this this book will shine more clearly. So I’m eagerly awaiting the sequel and hoping it meets my expectations!
