Annis Bell is a writer and scholar. She grew up in Europe but traveled a lot since childhood. Books and writing stories soon became her passion. After living and studying for many years in the USA and England, Bell grew roots in Germany and the South of England.

Bell favors the era of Queen Victoria's Reign and loves to explore victorian England. One of her favorite places in London is the Tate Gallery with the paintings of the Pre Raphaelites. And of course she cannot pass a castle or mansion without peeking ...

THE GIRL AT ROSEWOOD HALL is the first in the Lady Jane series. The book follows Lady Jane Allen as she investigates the death of a mysterious girl whom Jane discovered in the garden of Rosewood Hall. With her last breath, the child beseeches Jane to find another girl, Mary, and to save her from the same fate she has suffered. Lady Jane vows to fulfill this final wish, a promise that will entangle her in a dangerous intrigue and take her from the safety of home to the hard streets of London. With the faded inscription in a tattered novel as her only physical clue, Jane sets out to investigate the region's orphanages and infiltrate London's most elegant homes.

Jane finds a companion in her newly wed husband, the enigmatic Captain Wescott. A man with many secrets but devoted to his far too energetic wife. From the drawing rooms of Rosewood Hall to the moors of Devon and the bleak coasts of Cornwall, her dangerous search takes Jane to gloomy orphanages and the luxurious ambience of Victorian London. Where not everything is as it seems ...

In the second book of the series THE BLACK ORCHID Lady Jane will be drawn into a mysterious case of murder and betrayal, set in a gloomy country house in Northumberland.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystery and intrigue set amongst high society and workhouses. Very enjoyable ,easy reading . Was captivated with the story fronm start to finish..Beautifully written.Very descriptive and emotive. Excitement,fe,fear, compar ,compassion,lo,love, strve ,strength and depravation and poverty all feature in plot. The background setting of workhouses and orphanages was an eye opener. Couldn't put this book down and most refreshing after a 600 + page study book.
