I was sent a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.
From the very beginning The Gilded King did not disappoint and I devoured it so fast. The premise kind of reminded me of The Bone Season in a way which made me even more interested because I loved that book.
‘He looks so real,’ she said
‘They say he was.’
‘This is why you brought me here,’ she said.
‘Of course. You want to hear the fairytale, don’t you?’
The story is split in two POVs, one from Julia who lives in the Blue, a place that is believed to be the world’s last safe city, while the other is from Cameron who is in the Red, a wasteland filled with danger and at every corner.
I thing I liked most about this book was the creatures and the descriptions created to describe them, it just made it that bit more thrilling and intriguing. The two main characters were both very determined in different ways but I felt like there was a bit of depth missing. I’m super excited to see the characters grow more in the next book and I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for them.
The Gilded King is a unique action packed story that has great growing potential and I would definitely recommend it if you liked The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon or Branded by Abi Ketner.
