Product Description

Every passion has its price . . .
Journalist Sophie Ryder has been following Emery Lockwood's story since she was a little girl. There has always been something in his haunted eyes that she couldn't resist and now, when she's certain he holds the key to solving a string of kidnappings, she'll do anything to speak to him. Even if it means venturing deep into the seductive world of the Gilded Cuff, a luxurious BDSM club on Long Island's Gold Coast and Emery's personal playground.
From the moment Sophie enters his shadowy, sensual domain, Emery Lockwood knows this tantalizing new little sub was meant to belong to him. However, Sophie wants more from Emery than just pleasure . . . she wants his past. And that is something he isn't willing to give-no matter who is asking. But every moment he spends with Sophie, Emery feels his control slipping and he knows it's only a matter of time before he surrenders to her heart, body, and soul

The Gilded Cuff is the first in the Surrender Series trilogy and the first I have read by this author. I have to say it wasn't what I expected.
Sophie Ryder is a journalist with a knack for solving cold case crimes. After having her best friend abducted before her eyes as a child, she has devoted her life to resolving similar cases. One man has captured her fascination. Emery Lockwood. A billionaire recluse who managed to escape his kidnapper twenty-five years ago, but lost his twin in the process. Sophie believes Emery is still in danger and she’s determined to catch his brother's killer before he can finish what he started so long ago.
I thought the story would be centred more on the BDSM club, but it's firmly based around solving the crime committed against Emery and preventing him from further harm.
This has a definite historical feel to it. Whether it's because Emery lives in his childhood house, preserved as it was when the kidnapping occurred, or the flicks back in time to the abduction I'm not sure. Even the BDSM club, The Gilded Cuff, is a step back in time with its velvet drapes and Gothic brocade couches. I think it's a combination of all of the above paired with the author's eloquent writing style.
Emery is an interesting character. He's the powerful CEO of his father's company, a dominant - albeit a mild one, but he is still trapped as that little boy who lost his brother and endured horrors at the hands of his captors.
All these years Emery has avoided sharing his story with the world. Certainly not with any reporters. Sophie tracks Emery down at his BDSM club. Although she has no experience with the lifestyle, she responds to Emery's dominant nature. When Sophie discloses her career choice and the purpose behind her visit to the club, Emery recoils.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic romantic suspense 8 February 2017

Wow! I've had this on my kindle for sorry it took me so long to read it. I don't read a lot of romantic suspense, but this one totally pulled me in. The story of a reporter following a story 25 years in the making. She is drawn to the story due to her past that has similarities of the story she is trying to uncover. The problem, is to get to the story she must get to the only man on the planet that knows the truth....and he's been a recluse for years, never telling anyone what happened to him 25 years ago. However the one place that he does like to go to is a BDSM club called "The Gilded Cuff". That's where they meet..

If you're thinking this is another BDSM novel w/ clubs, whips and chains, then you are really missing out. The sex is not that often and what sex there is isn't very graphic. NO, this is more of a story of two people filling a void in each other that has been missing for years.

Mystery, love, drama, and a major cliffy. I highly recommend..I'm headed into book 2 next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book... This is a 'must read!!' 17 May 2016

I have had this book in my kindle for awhile and several recommendations from friends, so I thought I might check it out.. OMG, I absolutely could NOT stop reading.. This book has so much excitement along with romance that will leave you swooning or enjoying the more 'dominate' side...
the story is told in separate POV and it also turns back in time 25years earlier... Two twin boys, Fenn and Emery were kidnapped from their own home for almost 4 months, yet only one survived.. Emery, he is now 33 and is lost and runs the family business. He does not allow anyone to get real close to him.. He has a bodyguard, Hans and his computer kid, Cody - who he found that works for him (he was in foster system growing up and he and Fenn just clicked..) then there are Royce and Wes.. That is all that truly know him, he feels responsible for his brothers death. Fenn told Emery to run for help, but he did not want to leave him.. So for years he is half a man and shut down due to the guilt, until he meets a 'feisty' young lady, Sophie.. She is a journalist and also helps solve crime cases.. She wants to meet emery because she believes his life is still in danger.. She finds out he owns a BDSM club, the gilted cuff. Sophie attends the club one night and finds Emery... These two are on fire with HOT chemistry and this book has so much thrilling, mystery, Romance, and also some 'BDSM, kink' ... So, if you are ready for A lot of twists and surprises and clinching until the very end of the book.. This one will not fail.. .

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy captivating romantic suspense… 9 March 2015

Sophie Ryder is an investigative journalist, helping to solve cold cases involving the missing. She knows how it feels to lose someone dear because of the evil souls in this world. She also knows the guilt that survivors are left with. Her innocence of the world was lost when she was young and it has kept her removed from life, she’s been more of an observer than a participant, she doesn’t know how to be otherwise. But there is something in the eyes of a child in an old newspaper clipping and a gut feeling that it’s not over for him that has her seeking out the lone survivor of a twin kidnapping and doing so won’t be easy for he’s a recluse only rarely leaving his home to spend time at a BDSM club.

Emery Lockwood and his twin were kidnapped when he was young. He alone survived and he hasn’t shared all the details of what happened to him for reasons that he keeps to himself, the memories still haunt him. He surrounds himself with security and a personal guard and runs his family business from his estate. He exists but does not really live. Occasionally he visits a BDSM club and one night there he finds himself intrigued by a new submissive. When he finds out that she’s a reporter he knows that he should walk away but there is something about her that draws him so he strikes a deal with her, his story for her submission and perhaps she even can solve the case.

I loved this! This story had a great combination of mystery, suspense, romance and light BDSM. The characters were great and not just the main ones. The hero and heroine had emotional depth, both their stories were heartbreaking. I found myself invested in them, their attraction was strong and more than the lust that drew them to each other. They both had lost their innocence to the monsters of this world making them kindred spirits. They bring light into the darkness of the lives they’ve known and you want them to find freedom from their self-imposed prisons. I wanted to read more of this story that hasn’t totally ended and I’m so looking forward to the next book. This story does not end in a cliffhanger but there is more to the kidnapping mystery to be resolved, though Sophie and Emery do start their HEA. I loved the twists and turns in the plot and the surprise that I did suspect might be possible. This story captivated my attention and kept me turning the pages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read 17 July 2015

Great read. Emery has kept to himself ever since the kidnapping and using the club to help him stay secluded. Sophie just wants to get his story and help him with the danger she fears he is still in. The two come together in an explosive story of love and danger. Emery is trying to teach Sophie the BDSM lifestyle and make her his submissive all while they face the danger of the past coming back to finish off what it failed to do over 20 years ago. The author did a great job of telling their story and keeping it interesting and entertaining. The characters were so easy to follow and enjoy. Great start to this series. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars. Loved the romance and the mystery. 15 July 2015

'The Gilded Cuff' drew me in immediately, and I felt completely drawn to the pages until the very end. The story starts with Sophie, our investigative journalist, seeking out Emery, our reclusive millionaire, in a very private BDSM club. Both Sophie and Emery have painful past childhoods that have deeply affected their adulthoods. And Emery's past in particular leads Sophie on a quest to meet him, protect him, and save him. That is, if this recluse will let her in.

I loved getting to know Emery and Sophie. I found their characters completely compelling, riddled with honest emotions. They were both compassionate and genuine. Despite Emery's reclusiveness, he has the fierce loyalty of a small group, and that speaks volumes of his character, that although he has walls, literally and figuratively, in place, he still is an incredibly thoughtful, kindhearted man, even in his deep loneliness. Sophie also suffers from loneliness, yet the trauma she faced as a child has turned her into a warrior for those who need protection. Her personal life has suffered, but her compassion for those suffering around her has only grown.

So when these two meet and are able to see the truth behind each others' walls, it's no wonder that their chemistry, intimacy, tenderness, and understanding of one another drew them together, and gave them a chance at freedom from their pasts, and from themselves.

Even though they were together such a short amount of time, I loved how beautifully these two worked together. I could feel the sparks between them coming off the pages. Their attraction was a clear neon sign. But I loved the progress in their physical relationship. To me it was unexpected, because of how the author chose to progress it, and I loved that. It made this read special and stand out to me as not just another erotic read. But have no fear, the sexy times hit, and hit hard, and they were great.

But wait, there's more! There is also this whole big, huge part of the plot involving a mysterious someone plotting to kill Emery, and the mystery of Emery and his twin's kidnapping from 25 years ago. And this was quite the mystery. A page-turning, who-done-it mystery that I spent the entire novel trying to solve with my theories and predictions. And I loved it.

'The Gilded Cuff' was a fantastic read and I can't wait to read the next book, which will involve another couple, but I imagine will continue the current mystery. I can't wait to continue this series.
