It's the start of a Zombie Apocalypse. George and his family did as instructed by their government, securing their home and await the day they will be saved. But their rations are running low and it would seem that no one is coming to help. Desperate, George leaves his family and heads out to find supplies and hopefully someone to help him and his family. What was supposed to be a few hours of searching, ends up with him being held captive by a local gang leader by the name of Deacon.Now, not only does George face down zombies he must also fight humans. With the safety of his family on the line, he's forced to stay away. Till the day he can escape, his family must survive without him. And so begins the long road home for George, but with multiple enemies in his path, will he make it back in time to save his family or will he lose the battle against the zombies and humans both vying to destroy him.

The opening scene (Prologue) hits you straight in the gut. I sobbed like a baby.
But then you carry on to see things through George's eyes, what happened to him for him to have been missing for almost a month. And his journey was no easy. He didn't just encounter the danger of Zombies and the struggle to survive; he also encountered the strug'gle to live. Live among other survivors of this what seems like the end of the world as we know it. And a struggle to stay faithful.
The fear is very real. Scarlet Le Clair draws you in from the get-go. Her descriptive writing is immaculate. You almost feel like you are George, and you're experiencing his life as you read it.

A moving and poignant look into the future of a world, lost to zombies.

Scarlet Le Clair tugs at your heart strings with the survival story of George and Kelly and their precious children Poppy and Cameron.

When the zombie virus sweeps through their small village, they battle against all manner of horror in order to survive and hopefully escape to safety. George plays the protector role and leaves them safe and barricaded in their home, in order to scavenge food and supplies for the family.

His misadventures place him in peril at every turn and he must do whatever it takes in order to take the long road home to his family.

Highly recommended for those who love a heart wrenching, zombie stomping thriller. Great short read!!
