Product description

Product Description

Like many settlers, Carleton Kazimer traveled to the western frontier to escape something. In Carleton's case, it was a notorious criminal gang who put a price on his head. But the young earth wizard quickly discovers that new and unfamiliar dangers await him in the wild west.

A promising contract at a gold and silver mine in the Arizona Territory turns sour when the delvan miners who work the ore reject the assistance of a human geomancer. While trying to prove his worth to the impatient mine manager and the delvans, Carleton's efforts lead to conflict with the indigenous avens who populate the local mountains and revere the area's dragons.

With few allies to back him up, Carleton must find a way to salvage his contract and build a new life in the lawless desert far from the civilization of home.

Nice quick read for a rainy day. I liked the unique setting. This story of a young magic users starting on his own is fun. The character is free from some common hero traits of stupidity, stubbornness, and being all powerful. This book without that garbage allowed me to enjoy the story.

I loved it.
A nice magic in old west time frame setting.
Author did a great job painting a world.
I thought the main characters were engaging and had me rooting for the geomancer and hopeful for the aeromancer girl.

Excellent story telling.

This one is well worth adding to ones library.
Hope to see more in the series and from the author.

This had a highly original plot mainly due to the characters. The mine workers, the riders of the wyvern, the dragons --all set in an environment such as our west and a time like the early 1800s --made for a fascinating story development. I want to read more of our hero's adventures.

An interesting opener. This was a fun read with an interesting approach to magic. There are many things left unexplained or unfinished at the end of the book and I hope that future novels will continue the decent writing and interesting setting and characters.
4.0 out of 5 stars This book was a refreshing change of pace as i had just finished a long string of angst ridden tales of wizardly suffering and i 5 June 2016

a stereotypical western with good action likeable characters and comfortable blend of magic and technology. It has a steam punk feel without straying from the basic western trope. It was a fun fast read and I am looking forward to the next one soon I hope!☺
