The black repair patches have a sheen to them so I used the clear ones on my black ski pants. Even after a season of skiing the patch is not lifting around the corners.
We live on a farm, so it comes in handy having it as an extra jacket around. However the feathers flying out everywhere were pain in the butt. I purchased these patches, not sure what to expect. I have never owned a down jacket before this, so trying to repair one seemed almost impossible to me. Luckily, I searched Amazon and found these. They are so incredibly easy to apply, and they adhere extremely well. I have worn this jacket now on numerous occasions both working on the farm and out away from it. I truly expected for the patch to not stay on, but it has and now I am lucky enough to have two jackets that are both extremely warm. The whole I repaired was right in the back of the jacket and very easy to see. With the clear patch on, you only noticed it if you’re looking for it.
For my purpose I used the clear patches because the damage was on the polyurethane coated side. (not certain if that is the material but it seems like it)
For this use the clear tape was very effective. I simply cleaned and dried the tarp, cut the patch to be 1" overhanging all the way around the damage. I then rounded the edges of the patch. I applied it smoothly pressing from the center outward to remove bubbles.
I was left with a smooth finish, and a once again waterproof tarp.
I recommend these patches for damage smaller than 1 inch. For larger damage you'll need the rolls to leave the recommended 1 inch overhang for maximum strength repair.
