This is an interesting story with plenty of twists to keep the reader guessing and well worth a read. But at the same time it is jarringly smug. The portrayal of the protagonists as decent men caught up in events outside their control is probably fair enough, but the antagonists are merely cardboard cut-outs, steeped in evil, with no real effort to understand their motivation.

All in all, a disappointment.

Highly recommended. The twists and turns around the the central theme are handled with great finesse. The climax is brilliantly conceived as threads are drawn together to deliver a surprise finale. I’ve read and enjoyed a number of Jefferey Deaver’s books dealing with Lincoln Ryme and Amelia Sax as they investigate and solve devious crimes, but Garden of Beasts is a diversion from that series I am well pleased I made. Great read!

This is one of Jeffery Deaver's earlier books, but is every bit as good as any of his stories.
The story is set around the Berlin Olympics and the build up to war. It will have you on the edge of your seat trying to second guess the next twist or turn in the story. As always, it is superbly written and for me a real page turner, I read this in just over 24 hrs!
Don't miss the opportunity to read what I would consider one of, if not the best book Jeffrey Deaver has written to date.
