After watching The Dirt I was reminded how good this band is. Looking for a good compilation album I was initially gonna go with the soundtrack until I found this. I'm so glad I did. Not just for the great track listing but the reproduction is stunning. The remastering on these tracks make 'em sound so good. Comes in a nice package with interesting booklet/poster. Recommended for the casual listener or for the die hard fan.
Has some dialog on the inside of the gatefold talking about the bands story. Which I found a little hard to read with it been black text on a deep red background. Apart from that, great add to the collection, plenty of bangers on this.
Before purchasing this I had heard the usual Crue hits that are played on classic rock radio stations such as 'Dr Feelgood' and 'Girls, Girls, Girls' and 'Wild Side' etc but I found myself enjoying the other songs too. My favourite tracks from this compilation come from their earliest work 'Smokin' in the boys room', 'Too fast for love', 'Looks that kill' and 'Shout at the devil' (although the version on here comes from the 97 album Generation Swine), all superb tracks. These songs are more hard edged and bluesier than the latter material for the Crue became more mainstream latter on in their career.
This listener also enjoyed the more recent tracks recorded for this record 'Bitter Pill' and 'Enslaved' that along with 'Afraid' have a more contemporary rock sound. However my favourite song on here is the bluesy power ballad 'Home sweet home' which is a fantastic tune!
Lastly, if you like rock bands from the 1980s period such as Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake, Motorhead etc; or even more recent bands like Papa Roach then you will love this compilation. Also thankfully the Crue are still going strong with plans to release a new record soon so it's never too late to get into an established band!
