The design looks professional so I don't look like a child when I pull the laptop out at meetings. No one hires a dude with a toy laptop, no matter how beastly it is.
GPU is good for the physical size of it. This laptop is thin but it can still play most games on High at 60 fps. I don't know much about CPUs but I think the less you have to think about your CPU the better it is. Everything runs flawlessly. Having said that, this thing does get hot but I don't mind.
SSD has changed my life. Waiting is for suckers.
This thing is great! And it'd be perfect if you can get it with a 17" screen.
The Amazon page product information for this configuration clearly lists "single backlight" referring to a single-color backlit keyboard but the shipped laptop doesn't have it. When I contacted MSI customer support to see if something needed to be configured I went back and forth three days as the tech had me try power-cycling the laptop, re-installing Steel Series software, and then finally told me upon further review my SKU doesn't have a backlight. Even though the specification from the MSI website lists all GF63 Thin laptops as having a Backlight Keyboard (Single-Color, Red).
I'm afraid this upcoming year of MSI customer support will continue to be a misleading and bumbling experience.
Thay out of the way, this laptop (sans backlit keyboard) is amazing. It has played every game I've thrown at it so far on at least high settings. Final Fantasy 14, Sims 4, Dragon Age Inquisition, a bunch of others. The great thing about this series of laptop from MSI is they didn't skimp on the graphics chip. The whole series of laptops has the same one in it, the variations come with different hard drives sizes, more ram etc(and the more expensive versions have backlighting).
I plan to update this review with more games soon, but FF14 plays on max settings at about 60fps unless I'm in pvp with 150 other players. Even then I still get 40s. I'm very happy with this machine.
I wish this laptop could perform better with online gaming.
So my last rig was a 15” Razer Blade that was my absolute favorite. The build quality and overall presentation of that over this one is quite noticeable.
HOWEVER...after updates, configuring fans and speeds this thing has played both Rust and Borderlands 3 without a bit of lag and also noticeably quieter fans. It does get warm but doesn’t seem any worse then any other laptop.
So if you can get a deal on it, go for it. Not sure I’d pay full price but so far this thing is kicking butt.
I will not be buying any other brand besides MSI from now on, they are far superior in Gaming than any other company. This laptop is thin and very lightweight but don't let that fool you, it's very well made and powerful.
I have had this laptop for about 7 months now and have had no issues with it so far
One thing I really enjoy about it is the extended warranty you get just for registering your laptop.
