Jared's friends have all got someone to love, but Jared is still alone. He loves his work, but it's time for something else. That is why he travels to the United States where he plans to make a trip in a motor home by himself. At the beginning of his trip he meets Ivy, a hitchhiker who has just said goodbye to her alcoholic boyfriend and a life that wasn't going anywhere. He decides to give her a ride. She doesn't trust him at first, but soon they get along really well.

To make matters more complicated, Mia is supposed to accompany Jared on a large part of his trip because of a fight she had with her boyfriend Josh. Nobody asked Jared for permission, but he dutifully picks her up from the airport. To his surprise Josh is there too, but Mia is still not speaking to him. Jared's plans to travel alone are completely forgotten. The question is if he really minds or if he likes the company...

Fresh Beginnings is the third novella in the Beginnings series. The stories are fun to read. I recommend reading the first two parts before the third as it makes it much easier to understand the story. Ivy is the new character in this novella and I immediately liked her. She made a tough and brave decision and ended up being all alone. She's determined to make it on her own and that made her someone to admire. It was nice to read more about Jared and to find out some details about his life. Mia is seventeen in this story, it was really great to see her grow up. I loved this light and fun read as much as the first two novellas in the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars An alluring holiday romance 8 September 2014
By Margaret (Literary Chanteuse) - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
A holiday romance has the potential to be very alluring with the possibilities that open up and that element is very well captured here. A sense of adventure, embracing new ideas and letting go of inhibitions create magnetism between Ivy and Jared. At times the story drags slightly with a heavier emotional side yet, it still flows with ease. A lovely segment in the continuation the of this series.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
4.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Read 18 September 2014
By Alexandra - Published on Amazon.com

As an Australian-American raised in the United States, I was definitely curious about Iris Blobel’s Book, Fresh Beginnings.

Two things in particular sparked my interest. First, I was intrigued because the Australian characters are from Tasmania – a part of Australia I’ve never had a chance to visit even though my aunt and uncle lived there. Secondly, I was curious about the story because it was inspired by the author’s visit to the United States, and it’s always interesting to see how someone’s impressions of another country are expressed in literature, art, etc.

As it turns out, this was an easy, entertaining, delightful read. I found all of the characters to be authentic and related to all of them. Jared (the protagonist) has an easy-going nature and ability to roll with the punches when he encountered unexpected hiccups in his travels that I found especially realistic and endearing; and in that regard, he reminded me a bit of my Australian uncles and cousins.

Outside of California, I’ve never been to any of the places Jared and company visited, so that was a pleasant surprise, as well.

The story itself is well written, with just enough twists and turns to keep readers engaged, but not so many that the plot becomes too convoluted. As a result, the book should appeal to anyone who enjoys a nice romance.

The only small criticism I have is the repetitive use of some descriptive phrases, such as “choked back a laugh,” or “choked back a chuckle” and variations thereof. It was okay at first, but became a little bit tiresome by the end of the book.

All in all, this is a book I happily recommend for young-adult and “grown-up” readers.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fresh Plot, Romance and Human Story 28 August 2014

Thank you to the author who provided me with a copy for an honest review.
This book lived up to its name - it had a fresh approach and an interesting premise.
Ivy leaves her leach boyfriend and tries to make her way back to Salt Lake City where her mother lives whom she hasn't seen in years. Australian businessman Jared decides to hire a motorhome and tour the States to get away from his empty, harried life. His good friend Mark dumps the teenage Mia upon him and he has to tend to her issues. Jared picks up Ivy on the road and once she warms up to him, they get on like a house on fire despite their cultural differences. Inbetween trying to sort out Mia and her boyfriend Josh's issues, Jared tries to fight his growing feelings for Ivy.
There was something fresh and different about this book - the lingo, the way the romance progressed, and the whole plot. I rooted for the characters immediately and all the way through - at no time did I not sympathise with each of them.
For someone who would also like to tour the States one day, it was a fascinating and pleasant read. I learned some valuable lessons from the book for my own life too.
I just loved Jared and his very Australian mannerisms and speech!
3.0 out of 5 stars Caution this is not a book for teenagers to read 6 October 2014
By Wilani Wahl - Published on Amazon.com

The book is well written and kept my attention. However as a Christian there are some problems with the morals in this book. I realize this is apparently not a Christian Fiction Book published by what I thought was a Christian Fiction publisher. There was no mention of any kind of spiritual thread. I took issue that while there was no sex, the idea of having teenagers who are in love with each other sharing a bed even though they were mad with each other just is not good. Even though no swear words were written, but a continual hint of the characters swearing really bothered me. I tried not to judge, because the story line was good.
