Trice
Under the lights, amongst the jazz shoes, blistered feet and caked faces of the dance troupe, you pretend you’re someone else. The melody begins and your body responds. You allow it to weave into your skin until it’s made itself home in your soul. It is that dance that drives you. It is that dance that will continue to save you. It is that dance that will release you.

Until him.

Until your heart can no longer shut him out, even after he’s pushed you away.
You can’t let him in again, can you? There’s only so much of your heart left to give.

Alex
She is the reason I can’t stay. The reason that the covered bruises, the lies and the hurt are too much. I am no good for her. But when I see her again, I can’t stay away. Like Dante said, “The path to paradise begins in hell.”

*This is a companion novel in the Running On Empty series and contains no cliffhanger*

First off as an Aussie I loved the glossary of terms in the front. The definition of mole had me laughing out loud. It was so polite.

Bea and Alex's story beings with them as teenagers. Bea is dealing with bullying while Alex has a difficult home life. Their good relationship doesn't last. The way Alex behaved as a teen had me fuming. So much so I put the book down for a days and read something else until I was calm enough again to give Alex a second chance. I loved Bea and I thought Alex just wasn't good enough for her. Thankfully the dumb teenage boy becomes a good man. It was worth persevering.

It was great seeing Bea and Alex grow up, mature and realise that what you want at 15 sometimes isn't what you want as an adult, and sometimes it is. Dreams change, life changes and you live, learn and adjust.

Fragments is a lovely, emotional, funny, romantic story. I'll definitely be reading the next book in this series.

I loved this book! I love a sexy romance and it does not disappoint!! M.R. Field is a new Author to me and I will be reading more of her work in the near future! I can't wait to read 'splinters' now, the next book in the series. I love her characterisation and description and the way she helps you to connect with the characters. The use of Italian throughout added to the sense of romance but the storyline was very bold and typical of an 'Australian' childhood whilst adding an element of a very tough subject for one of the leading males. Her knowledge and research into this subject, gave a fantastic insight and different twist to the story and this character and why he struggled the way he did in his later years... It carries the perfect amount of angst, romance, sexiness, love, second chances, and keeps you guessing what will happen next. I also loved the way she stayed true to her Australian roots and only used some americanisms when needed. Well done M.R. Field! You will be one to watch on my very long book list!

There is nothing more thrilling for me than to find a diamond in the rough. Out of all the books that I read, I’m searching for a book that just grabs hold of me. A book that satisfies every itch I have and it’s rare that I find that but when I do – I want to shout it from the rooftops – this happens to be one of those diamonds.
This contemporary, young adult love story has taken my breath away. I even contacted the author to ask if this is her first book. The quality of this story and how it's been able to draw such emotional responses from me needs to be commended and that was just from the first quarter of the book. The author is truly gifted and has just pretty much made it a safe bet that she is on my automatic buy list. I have read works by seasoned authors that have fallen well short of this well scripted and executed story.
There are so many layers to this story and that’s why I was asking ‘is this your first book?’ I hope the author wasn’t offended because her work has just slayed me. She has a fresh and intriguing writing style that flowed wonderfully. I was fist pumping, I was yelling NO at the kindle, I was tearing up and grinning like an idiot. This book packs an emotional wallop and the multi-layered compelling characters who managed to get under my skin – I just couldn’t put this book down! Even the bullies had me wondering about their story and why they were the way they were. I even had thoughts of cancelling a kids play date (yes, bad mummy but I didn’t cancel) to keep reading.
This is a fast paced, emotional rollercoaster that will deliver. I was apprehensive to be so fulfilled by the first quarter of the book that I was thinking it might have all come crashing down. I love it when a book proves me wrong.

Wow.... What a awesome debut novel by my friend MR Field.
While I was reading this I had to actually take my time and highlight so many wonderful things. I haven't read a book in a while where I actually read slow and highlighted. From the get go I had a connection to Beatrice (Trice, Bea). I was feeling every single thing she was feeling. I have read a few books that revolve around bullying and it breaks my heart that these stories are real for someone out there including myself. To watch how strong Bea becomes while reading the story, she makes me cry and laugh out in snorts with her. To see a close relationship between families and friends is beautiful. I especially love Alex and how strong he becomes without the hurt from a parent. M.R. Field has done a wicked job on her Debut and she is now a Favourite Author who I will read again and again.

There are two themes that are sure to get my attention with a book…dance and the older brother’s best friend thing. Luckily for me, these are both very nicely combined into this highly addictive and very well written book.

Lead characters Trice and Alex are both very likeable and you find yourself rooting for them right from the start. Even in the earlier years when they would tease and bicker, you could feel the chemistry between them. Having the book set over a period of 8 years, you get to see the way they both grow and how their relationship ebbs and flows. Supporting characters are also very well written and developed and their interaction with both Trice and Alex, as well as each other, is natural, entertaining and intriguing.

While this is a very beautiful book, it’s also very raw and honest, dealing with issues such as bullying, abuse, self-worth and even the ugly side of dance isn’t glossed over with the mention of the ‘one size fits all ballet body’, difficult company directors and tough, ugly feet. To me, this just added to the overall experience.

Despite this book being just shy of 300 pages, my main gripe is that it wasn’t long enough! I wanted more!!! I am very much looking forward to the release of the second book in the series, Splinters.
