However, the maths did not add up in the "Something Old" book, as has been mentioned in another review and - a lorry in 1828? Really? The editor should have picked this up! Some modern sayings in the book which didn't ring true either.
The "deflowering" scenes are not realistic because it is most unlikely that this would have happened in this era. A girl would not be "game" to do this when being caught in a kiss could mean social ruin.
Well I did maths at school and that does not add up. It has really distracted me from enjoying the romance. Who edited this thing?
And if the girl had the sixpence for10 (or 6) years, why would she give it credit for finding her true love NOW What has the sixpence been doing for all these years?
Then there is the deflowering scene. How sudden and anachronistic How out of character from the descriptions up until then?
I am also concerned from reading the prequel that the girls aged 14 , and two years older (16) and above (17?) would be considered well on the shelf at 26 and 27 if the "10 years later " scenario is to be believed.
*mind you. I am only listening to the audiobook version. Perhaps in the print version all the maths work out and the tacky post proposal "up against the wall" scene is absent?

However, I loved the whole book. The writing styles gelled very well and all the stories would be enjoyable as stand-alone novellas. I loved all the heroes and all the heroines, and was very sorry when I got to the end. I certainly came to believe in the sixpence!
I would definitely recommend it as a well-written, consistently enjoyable and good-length read. It reminded that I did like Julia Quinn's books, and I will also be looking out for novels by the other three authors.
