I'm a 17 year old male who recently had a desire to get a watch. First place I checked was my grandpa because I had no idea which brands to look at. My grandpa owned several brands but his best watch was a Fossil.
- Research -
I spent a couple hours across the span of a few days researching many analog watches. I mostly looked at $20-60 watches, and all of them had terrible reviews. I found some trends with these cheap watches, they all had false advertising for water ratings and their bands were either faux leather or had weak pins in their links. Most of them didn't last their owner longer than half a year.
> So I thought, why spend $40 on a watch that lasts maybe a year-- at best--when I can spend twice the amount for a watch that lasts way longer and looks a ton better too.
- Metal Band -
The metal band is really nice in person. Everyone says the watch in total [with band] is kind of heavy, but I have say [and I have a small wrist], it was NOT heavy at all. Keep in mind, this is my VERY first watch so maybe the other reviewers were comparing to their smaller lighter watches.
- Watch Face -
Most people here are disappointed that the blue accents on the smaller dials in the watch face aren't pronounced enough, but I haven't seen that as a problem. If you get a decent light ray on the watch you'll see the nice blue accents at the exact color that is shown in the product pictures. The side buttons and crown aren't big and annoying: something I thought might have been a problem. I assure you this watch is amazing.
- Sizing -
Some people here are disappointed about "having to get a new band" because the links are too big to make an actual adjustment. I don't understand where they're coming from because when I went to my local jeweler, she was able to take the right amount of links off and adjust the closest link to the clasp [there are 3 adjustable pin spots for the link closest to the clasp on each side] which proved to help fine tuning the adjustment [I had taken 3 links out because my wrist was a bit small]. The jeweler instilled in me that the watch may have to fall loosely over my wrist [where the carpal (or the big round bone thingy) is]. This was not the case, I was easily able to adjust the band to the perfect size even for my smaller wrist.
- Conclusion -
All in all, this watch is f'ing amazing. Since you've clicked on this watch, that means you've shown a little interest in it. Which means you are hesitant to buying it but would still consider it. STOP CONSIDERING AND ORDER IT ALREADY!
Fossil watches are amazing and I'm glad I got this one for my first watch ever!
[ Might update in a couple months to a year to let you know how well it holds up. ]
[ Also will try to upload some good looking pictures and not from a 5 megapixel flip recorder lol. ]
No dents no dings no scratches, arrived new, on time, and as expected.
Some reviews talk about it being 'big', but it's the same size as the Timex I just moved out of, which I wore from age 17, to 25.
It's not small but its also not one of those huge pop culture watches, it's just right for your average adult male.
Band feels a tad light, not quite cheap, but not high end either.
Hollow is how I'd describe it.
But the face and watch head are great, sharp, attractive, with some heft, but not heavy at all.
Top button starts/stops timer, bottom button is hold to reset.
1/4 pop on winding dial to adjust date.
Update: 1 year later, and still 0 complaints. I wear it everyday, and I'm not gentle, but the watch has held up perfectly. Only very minor wearing of the finish on the outer side of the band, where it rubs on my desk all day long, it's only noticeable on close inspection.
This is a very solid watch.
Pictured: Flaking finish on the band as well as on the bezeled face after only a few months of less than daily use.
Sometimes it will unclasp itself when working with my hands.
The individual links on the band are large and therefore it is harder to achieve a very accurate fit.
I've only had it for a few months and the black bezeled face is already flaking off, as well as the ends of the links in the band; which is very noticeable due to the reflective qualities of the stainles steel underneath.
Overall I am happy with my purchase but I am wary of the durability of the black finish. I believe the watch will continue functioning indefinitely but aesthetic does matter. I am also slightly worried that I won't notice it unclasp itself and it could fall off. In my job this would not be good. For these reasons I detracted a star but this is an extremely solid watch thus far. Good for the price. I will detract another star if the issue progresses much more. A $100 watch should at LEAST last a year.
Update. I really don't like this watches band release. Instead of on both sides like normal watches its only on one side and its relatively easy to press in. Its a bad design. I wear my watch loosely and if I bend my wrist up, the single watch band release button depresses and the band comes undone, which almost caused the watch to fall off my wrist a couple of times. I will think about whether I want to return it due to this reason but it was a horrible design choice to only have a single band button.
