In THE FORGOTTEN CHILD, Brad Friessen wasn't looking to love again. But what he got was a woman who shook his lonely bitter world upside down, and touched him in a way no other woman could.

Emily Nelson, ends a loveless, bitter marriage and strikes out on her own. She answers an ad as a cook and live-in caregiver to a three-year-old boy on a local ranch. Ranch owner Brad Friessen hires and moves in Emily and her daughter. But Emily soon discovers something's seriously wrong with the boy, and the reclusive, difficult man who hired her can't see the behavior and how delayed his son is. Emily researches until she stumbles across what she suspects are the soft signs of autism. Now she must tell him, give him hope, and help him come to terms with this neurological disorder-to take the necessary steps to get his child the help he needs.
As their lives become intertwined, their attraction is unavoidable-a connection sparks between them. But just as they're getting close, Brad's estranged wife, Crystal, returns after abandoning the family two years earlier.
Crystal must've had a plan, as she somehow gains the upper hand, driving a wedge in the emotional bond forged between Brad, Emily, and the children. The lengths to which Crystal will go, the lies, the greed, just to keep what's hers, are nothing short of cold and calculating.  Brad fights to save his boy, to protect what's his, and struggles over his greatest sacrifice-Emily, and the haunting question: Has he lost her forever.

This was a lovely heartwarming read dealing with an autistic child. The mum Crystal not coping & leaving poor Brad to cope alone. Emily enters as the help, which she is reminded as being when the big bad momma Crystal returns, of course wanting something.

Emily realises Brads sons problem & offers hope & assistance to him. People don't react well to disabilities so of course there's lots of drama.

Emily saves the day & the family.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad 15 June 2016
By jjwelton - Published on Amazon.com

I give this 3 1/2 stars. This book is about a women finding out she's been in a dead end marriage, files for divorce, & as luck would have it gets a nanny position. Throughout the book we see her struggles. First with the heros son, which later on we learn he has autism. Second, her draw towards the hero. Third, a small amount dealing with the money & custody. Fourth, the crazy wife of the hero!! We do get to see some struggles the hero goes through. Now with all that said I was a little disappointed in the book. One, and my biggest problem, is the wife proves over & over she lies, yet the heroine is so naive she believes her EVERYTIME! Ugh, I just wanted to throw the book. Second, she gets so heart broken & crys all night over the hero, yet didn't shed a tear over her lost marriage. To me I feel even though you may not love or feel the same for that person anymore, you still weep some for the lose of it. Third, I just didn't really connect to the hero. For me there wasn't a lot to like about him. He was to unstable. All in all it read well, just not Oh My Gosh! Thank you! For reading & hope it helps😄

3.0 out of 5 stars accurate title 6 June 2014
By KatenorrIs - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Very accurate title for this book. There was very little in the way of focusing on Trevor's autism and the supposed therapy for him. The book was more about an ill-tempered man who went from raging to having sex in a millisecond. The story was disjointed at times. For example, Emily was a klutzy, jumpy woman around Brad and in the next paragraph she's letting him rip her clothes off. Huh? No segue at all. The author says the book has been proofread and edited, but it definitely needs another proofing. This could have been a very sweet story if the author had stuck with the original intended story (based on my interpretation from the title and synopsis) and toned down the gratuitous sex.

1.0 out of 5 stars I really wanted to like this book 15 July 2014

I really wanted to like this book. But I couldn't get past the language or the unlikely nature of the storyline. How could a woman with a 2-year-old child agree to be a live-in nanny without ever meeting the child or seeing where she would live? How could an educated man not see that his child needed more help than he could provide on his own? And how could he hire a nanny for that child without ever seeing if there was a connection between the child and nanny? It just wasn't logical and I couldn't finish the book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Life is too short for bad reads 19 June 2015
By Meg - Published on Amazon.com

The writing was the #1 problem for me. 5 comma's in 1 sentence, only 2 were actually needed. Switched between first and third person narration a few times. Lots of run-on and incomplete sentences. This book could have used an amazing editor, and because it didn't have one I could not get past page 42.

#2 problem for me which contributed to why I didn't finish the book is the lack of story and character development. Several times claims were made that the "hero" was a jerk, yet the reader meets him the same time as the narrator and the narrator fails to explain how he is a jerk. The narrator has an embarrassing scene with a purse tipping out, yet there was no explanation why she was messing with her purse to begin with. The author may as well have added "Then Emily jumped on an elephant and it threw her off" because they equally make the same amount of sense for what one had to do with the scene. It was situations such as this that had me cringing page after page.

It was on sale when I bought it, and I still want my money back. However, I have a colleague who doesn't pay attention to little details like I do and she enjoyed it. So some will enjoy this book, but most assuredly not me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unsettling 6 September 2012
By BramawRed - Published on Amazon.com

I have a grandson with autism. It was painful reading that the woman "helping" the child with autism was sitting him in front of the tv all the time...and that she did the same thing with her daughter. I could relate to the tantrums and humming coming from the boy, but if you're going to write about a child with autism, you should know fully what a day in their lives is truly like. The story was supposedly written about "The Forgotten Child" but the entire story mostly forgot about the children and focused mainly on the man and woman.
