I like the storyline, and Ariel is a good counterpoint to Jinx, but the Tourette's that Jinx exhibits was only amusing/tolerable for the first book. By halfway through this book I had to resist the need to close the book or fight the feral urge to reach into the game and slap her every time she opened her mouth.
*spoiler alert*
I find it lame that, what, less than an hour after they open a new area, other guilds are swarming the town, almost before those that opened the area up are able to get there. This is especially bad when I didn't see Jericho mentioning that a system alert went out about it. How would anyone else know it opened unless players are constantly pouring over maps? I realize it's a plot device, but it's too blatant.

I like these books to a point. They are short easy reads with a joke of a main character, a ludicrious plot and enough whimsy and charm to overcome the flaws for the most part. This tale has Jericho, Terra and now Jinx heading on a quest to find Jericho another "familiar". He displays a bit of problem solving and intelligence here, but its not solid and the rest of the tale began to have a sameness of plot style by the end.

Still, this one has some excellent scenes and the magic system was still below the "its too powerful to be fun" bar. I give it 4 stars as after this I picked up books 3 through 6 to read through.
