Be careful...when you pick up this book expect to put your life on hold whilst you escape into the world of Dharatan. Your family may not forgive you but you wont care as you will be so invested in what happens next to Lani. Highly recommended. I LOVED it! Can't wait for Book II.
Daryl - what a cracker story. Beautifully written, fast paced with clever and detailed characters. I was hooked from the start and it certainly didn't take long for me to finish. Well done and I can't wait for Book 2.
Your book has kept me from my kids, my wife and my work. I stayed up way too late, re-prioritised my busy life and neglected my duties in order to keep the pages turning. It was that good a great read.
This book is not usually my genre of choice. I can’t remember the last time I read one of its like. But it was enthralling and now I must live in hope that you write the next book of the six. How long must I wait?
I feel I must share this book with my wife, who is far more discerning and a better reader of character than I am. But can we both suffer under the unanswered questions? Can I handle her descriptions of the same scenes I have read and us disagreeing on the boundless options that the narrative dictates must be resolved?
I am not an expert on novels. Most certainly not fantasy ones. I am concurrently reading ‘The Thirty-Nine Steps’. A classic. I feel that your book matches the tension, the plot twists, and the characters that exist along the spectrum of trustworthy to fearsome.
Finally, it is with sadness that I must return to normal life, away from the fantasy life of jesters and the people of the street, and back to mowing the neglected lawn, and the neglected kids. I shall await the time they must be neglected again, but please do not leave me waiting too long.
This book grabs you by the throat and doesn’t let go. What a debut novel. 713 pages I read in a week couldn’t put it down. Loved all the characters, fantastic world building. Can’t wait for the next instalment. Well done Darryl.
I have read so many fantasy books, that they all blend together or are forgotten, when I finish them (*if* I finish them). This book is one of the few that stand out to me, and I will follow the author in anticipation of the next book in the series.
