I'm super conflicted about this book.
On one hand I find the story-line and plot fascinating. The idea that the world can rest on the shoulders of a few men and what it would be like is thought provoking.
That society can go from being predominantly male controlled to the complete opposite, and where that will leave the world.
However, I am not a fan of how the story reads. It is very fast paced and I had a lot of trouble connecting with the characters.
The situations they were in were described briefly, but more than anything it felt like a run down of events, rather than a story I can lose myself in.
I'll be reading the rest of the books mostly because I'm interested in how the story will pan out, but I'm entirely not convinced the writing style will improve, unfortunately.

I read the blurb and thought "huh... gender-bend handmaid"... I was so far wrong I was ridiculous!
It's been a while since I've read a book in a day. It was easy to do though. Folsom was intriguing, challenging, thought provoking (and hot as hell).
In my experience when books are co-authored you notice subtle changes (sometimes not so subtle) in the style of the writing - not so with this story. It was seamless throughout (I'd be lying if I didn't say as a proud PLN, I didn't try and pick the Fisher parts. There were times where I thought I was clever enough to pick it, but most of the time not so much).
If you don't like cliff hangers then wait for the series, Folsom has a doozy of one of those. Expect the un-expected, be prepared for twists and turns and to have your mind blown.
The next instalment says "coming soon", I hope that's not one of my Mums "soon" when I was excited to be somewhere and kept asking "how much longer!"
No pressure girls, but I'm ready for the next book when you are!!

Absolutely loved this book! A page turner from beginning to end, this story was one that will stick with me for a while. If you like brilliant writing and a (scary) look into the future then this one's for you! Ends in a cliffhanger.

You know how you listen to a song, really listen to the lyrics and it just gets to you. Gives you goosebumps and makes you feel. This book did all of that on a larger scale! It gripped you from the start and left you wanting more. The writing is fantastic. My new favourite. I can’t wait for the next book!

An Epic read, and this is only book one!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 30 May 2018Verified Purchase
It’s the morning after, and I am a train reck.
A dystopian novel so powerfully brilliant, where the lines blur between reality, and fiction. It’s not like anything I expected, it’s unique, relevant, passionate, and raw.
Who does that?
A collaboration duo of epic proportions— Fisher and Aster—that’s who!
Flawlessly scripted with a precision that will pull you under with the power of a tidal wave, and hold you hostage like it’s your anchor. Simply breathtaking.
The onslaught of emotions throughout had my heckles raised, and my pulse racing, the palpitations I felt are by no means an exaggeration.
It will leave you on a precipice—a cliffhanger would be too kind of a word— read it now, and give yourself time to work through the barrage of thoughts, and emotions that will encompass you long after.
Believe me when I say you don’t even have to like Dystopian or even Romance novels to read this book, it has something for everyone, and you will love it.
I was invested in these characters, and this book, a reality so close to home, where broken people strive to overcome adversity in a time of uncertainty and chaos.
I ached for Folsom in a way I did not see coming, when I saw his vulnerability, it gutted me.
Hell Yeah to Gwen, she is tenacious, feisty, resilient, intelligent, and yet a compassionate heroine.
She gives new meaning to Rise of the Women, she brings hope—that two wrongs don’t make a right.
I guarantee you by the end you’ll want to stand with Gwen, rise up, and fight for The End of Men.
An epic read, and this is only book one!

Hunger Games meets Handmaid’s Tale ish!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 September 2018Verified Purchase
Wow that was a ride! It was like Hunger Games meets reverse Handmaids Tale. And I devoured it.
I have read everything Tarryn Fisher has published and loved every book, Folsom was nothing at all what I expected from her. I knew the blurb but the writing style seemed nothing like her. I haven’t read any of Willow’s books, perhaps the change was her influence.
Folsom is fundamentally a sex slave with his own private jet, a chauffeur and a dressmaker. He’s fathered hundreds of kids to repopulate the world but it takes a girl with messy hair asking about his boots to make the wheels fall off.
Gwen begins to question the use of the End Men and Governonr Petite a bit like Katniss questions the Capitol and President Snow. You’ve got to love a rebel uprising.
Folsom is different and new and thoroughly enjoyable. Can’t wait for Jackal.

I love different. This book is different.

Oh my goodness.
I just finished FOLSOM and I’m at a loss for words.
I went in not knowing what to expect having not read anything by these two authors before but I’m absolutely going to check out the rest of their work.
I find the more books you read, the less authors seem to be able to surprise you—so not the case with this one.
I was hooked into the story from the very first page and as I got lost in the characters, I found myself so obsessed by what might happen next, I just HAD to keep reading. I fell asleep clutching the book only to wake much earlier than I was ready to so I could dive back in.
I love different. This book is different. And I simply cannot wait to see where it goes next.

Tarryn Fisher gets nowhere near the recognition she deserves for her outstanding writing. She pulls you in and holds you tight whilst you ride her rollercoaster of words. She hides behind no pompous and is real to her core which shows through her writing. I cannot wait for the second book in this series 👍🏻
