It had been sometime since I first encountered the study of the French language at high school, but keen to renew my interest I have been searching for a way to restart so to speak. There are plenty of online resources around but if you haven’t kept up with things it’s difficult to know where to start.
“Fluent in French” has certainly fulfilled that role for me. I found the content to be well thought out, clearly written by someone with a depth of understanding of the language but also with a genuine desire to impart this understanding and enjoyment to anyone who wishes to dig deeper.
The book really emphasis learning the language as a journey and covers almost every facet, from defining your initial motivation to recommending a large variety of resources to maintain and enrich your experience throughout.
In practical terms, I found the author’s shortcuts or “hacks” extremely helpful, no matter which resource I was using. These recommendations save so much time when navigating some of the more repetitive parts of learning, as well as workarounds and ways to avoid making common mistakes with some of the trickier parts of the language.
Every effort was made to enhance my enjoyment of the language and I found myself often referring back to sections of the guide when making my way through the supplied audio components.
Up-to-date resources, relevant material and an intuitive introduction to getting back into learning French made this purchase excellent value for me.
