Product Description

A hit-and-run driver leaves Ernesto Martinez to die by a Miami canal. Then an alligator comes along to finish the job.

Being dead gives Ernesto plenty of time to think. He thinks about his wife, taken from him too soon by illness. He thinks about his daughter, the victim of a drunk driver. He thinks about his death as he watches his body slowly decompose.

Most of all, he thinks about injustice.

The meth head ex-con living in the Everglades. The judge enjoying retirement on the Gulf Coast. The son of a Colombian drug kingpin partying in South Beach. These men care nothing for the pain they’ve caused. But they’ll soon know what it is to feel pain.

Set against the sweltering bug-infested backdrop of South Florida, FLORIDA GOTHIC weaves a darkly unnerving and visceral tale of sex, drugs, crime and vengeance.

Book 1 in The “Gothic” Series from Mitzi Szereto.

“Mitzi Szereto’s dark night of the soul is one wild, soul-blasting old mother of a trip, plus maggots, cockroaches, and cocaine. Solid, slippery, bug-eyed fun.”—Peter Straub, author of "Interior Darkness: Selected Stories"

5.0 out of 5 stars Mitzi Szereto's FLORIDA GOTHIC reminds us that life is all about choosing to live it wisely 10 July 2017

I've enjoyed reading author Mitzi Szereto's work over the years. As a storyteller you never know where she is going to take the reader, and with FLORIDA GOTHIC she gives us another literary gem.

In the story we meet Ernesto Martinez, a man who has had his share of difficulty and bad times, but when tragedy literally strikes him we are able to see how his attitude about life has a lot to do about what unfolds next. Love the way Mitzi is able to share this story and as we take this amusing and sometimes thoughtful journey along with the characters we'll definitely find ourselves asking what we would do in a similar situation.

A great beginning to a new chapter in Mitzi's literary career, looking forward to see where the next book in the Gothic series takes us.

This is one of the far too few books where the sense of Story is equaled by the use of language in such a flowing narrative you almost don't realize the plot line is proceeding, riding the wave of imagery in a treasure of a tale of justice and sorrow.
