Product Description

Two people haunted by their past…
The collision of two damaged hearts…
Meet Elizabeth Williams. She is at the airport on an important work assignment. If everything goes smoothly, after three years of hard work, she’ll get a promotion and a much-needed raise. Elizabeth is putting her life back on track after it was ripped out from under her feet four years ago when she lost her parents along with all her dreams. Standing here, she believes her life is going to change for the better any moment now. Nothing can go wrong, right?
Meet Ryan Price. He came to Moscow on business. Right now, Ryan is standing at the airport looking at a ‘present’ from his brother, judging by the sign a beautiful young woman is holding. Damn his brother for not cancelling this arrangement as Ryan asked.
Miscommunications and misunderstandings and a love story begins.
There will be a scary flight, lovely breakfasts, long evening conversations, sharing a secret or two, discovering one another, a lot of laughter, tender moments and some tears, a fight and, of course, the I-am-ready-for-the-end-of-the-world kiss.
Somewhere along the way, they won’t be able to fight their feelings any longer.
For the first time in his life, Ryan will experience a different shade of lust. And for the first time in her life, Elizabeth will have to trust despite all of the times she has been hurt.
Will these two wounded lost souls find love, peace and comfort in each other or will they just break each other more? Is it a train wreck of a love story or a happily ever after?

For a debut novel, Miss Krat has done a lovely job at giving us a beautiful romance between two very likeable characters. While I had some issues with the book, the story held the potential to be fabulous. I will definitely be reading more from this author and I am now hanging out for book two.

Elizabeth Williams and Ryan Price enter each other's lives purely by coincidence. Elizabeth has a very mundane job and is always striving to better herself in not only her life but also her career. Ryan on the other hand is the CEO of Price Corp, he is arrogant, cocky and wants nothing more than to exact revenge on his father.

Elizabeth and Ryan both have personal demons that seem take over their thoughts and control their lives. However, it doesn't stop these two from getting to know each other and finding out why the connection they feel towards one another is so intense. From their chance meeting to their first time grabbing a drink, these two hit it off and the humorous moments between them really did make me laugh. Their banter was witty, funny and not over the top. Can these two get past all the problems in their path and find happiness in the arms of each other?

I enjoyed this story, and I really did want to love it. My concerns were with the content. Dual POV is always a favourite for me, however I felt the going back and forth over the same scenes that had just happened in both POV's was unnecessary. It only added to the length of the book. Many times I found myself wanting to scan over these paragraphs because it didn't hold any new information I felt I needed to know, it was just a repeat from the other's perspective. Because of this and other times where I felt we were being told unnecessary info I couldn't fully find myself loving it. The writing quality was really good for a debut and I can see plenty more amazing work coming from this new author in the future.

4.5 stars. Reviewed on behalf of A Book Lover’s Emporium book blog

This is book one in the Damaged Hearts Duet by Emily Krat.

Elizabeth “Liz” Williams has lived in Moscow for 4 years, ever since her parents were killed in a plane crash. She lives with her Granny in Moscow, her only relative, and has been in the same job for 3 years, biding her time before she gets the promotion she so richly wants and deserves. She is a head strong girl but has a past that has damaged her beyond recognition, some of which her best friend Nina is not privy too.

Ryan Price doesn’t travel. End of! Being the CEO of Price Corp, he chooses to stay in New York and send his brother Mark to act as the company’s representative. He is hell bent on revenge against his father’s legacy for him and his brother, a plan however his brother knows nothing about, and when he decides to travel to Moscow to seal the final deal in his father’s coffin little does he know what’s in store for him.

Through a big misunderstanding at the airport, Liz and Ryan are thrown into a world wind of angst, turmoil, uninvited feelings and most of all love.
Can both of them overcome their skeletons and be truthful with one another, or will they let the chance of being loved and whole pass them by?

I was hooked from the moment I started reading this book and cannot wait for the second instalment. There is a slight cliff-hanger at the end but not too much to give you a book hangover and the wait for the 2nd one is almost over.

First....Wow!, just Wow!.. What an Outstanding story! I couldn't put it down. I read it in a day.
The most amazing story of fate and destiny that I have read in a while. ...Ryan and Elizabeth meet by accident, an accident that ultimately decides their fate. I really enjoyed watching all the characters grow and develop, especially Ryan & Elizabeth. I got to know them at the same time they got to know each other. Theirs is a love story, but it's hard won and a long really tough journey for both of them. They are two vey different people from very different backgrounds. Elizabeth is an only child of parents that adored & cherished her. She lost them in a plane crash and went to live with her grandmother who she now cares for. She works to pay the medical bills, so her own life is on hold.
Ryan Price and his younger brother Mark come from a loveless home. His father was a heartless man, married for money to build his empire and was never home. He forced Ryan to groom for taking over someday under the threat of protecting his brother from a secret that would shatter the boys life. His Mother died when Mark was born, but still his only memory of her was with a drink in her hand, she hated him and the child she carried and had no problem telling him so.
So here we have two people, Elizabeth, a caring, giving but still grieving young woman, and Ryan, a devastatingly handsome man who has no heart, he uses women as a release, He knows all they want is his money, he doesn't believe in love because he has never felt or gotten love. He has no time for anything else as he is determined to destroy what the old man built now that he is dead...... When Ryan & Elizabeth meet there is an instant attraction, So this story is their story......

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT CHARACTER VOICE AND PERSONALITIES 22 February 2015
By Jules Dixon - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
What I loved: The way the main characters met was unique and added some comic/intrigue elements to this book. The side stories are interesting and secondary characters- wide breadth of personalities.
What I liked: The characters had great internal dialogue, made me really get inside of their heads. I loved the settings of the book and I could tell that the author has travelled extensively by her descriptions of some of the locations. The first few chapters repeat from both character's POV's. At first I was a little confused, but it really helped me to get to know the character and Emily did a great job at making each character have their own voice. And the other: There were a few times when I thought that the two main characters were just having a basic misunderstanding and if one of them would just start talking it could have been handled pretty directly. I was never frustrated but sometimes I wanted to tell them to just stop being that way and then I realized that was their character (insecure and questioning), so I think the writer got the response she was writing for.
Overall, a good full-length novel and I'll be interested in what the author does with the story lines she left open.
4.0 out of 5 stars Delightfully Delicious, Witty, and Hot With the Perfect Bit of Angst! 11 January 2015

4-4.5 sexy stars!

Flawed and Damaged is delightfully delicious, witty, and hot with a bit of angst. This book is a breath of fresh easy read that flows well. Life is not planned. Sometimes the best mistakes turn out to be the miracles you need. For Elizabeth Williams, the mistake comes in the form of a hot pompous jerk of an alpha male in a business suit at an airport in Moscow named Ryan Price.

Elizabeth met Ryan at the airport by mistake in Moscow when she thought he was the employee her boss wanted to escort to a meeting. Ryan thought she was an escort his brother set up for him to loosen him up and show him a good time.

"For some unknown reason the intense peering-into-my-very-soul gaze of this stranger paralyzes me and makes my heart thump madly. What surprises me is that I feel some current running between us. Does he feel it too?"

Beautiful blonde and brainy Elizabeth, still haunted by a devastating past, has thrown ladies-man Ryan quite the curveball. Used to women throwing themselves at his feet and one-night stands, he can't walk away from the sweet and amber-eyed long-legged beauty who sets his heart and body on fire and has taken his mind hostage.

"The more I spend time with Elizabeth, the more another desire awakes in me. Once I've never felt before--a desire to save her. To save her from something. I am not sure from what yet. The problem is that I'm not that kind of guy; I'm not a savior. I used to see women as an object of my satisfaction. The only things I care about are myself, my business, and my brother. This young woman is so much more than just good looks. She is intriguing, smart and straightforward. I like her. And I don't like that I like her.."

What started out as a mistake, develops into much more. Elizabeth and Ryan can't seem to stay away from each other...they are like captivating crack to each other...thoroughly addicted...they need each other more than they want to admit.

"There is something about him, something magnetic, something I can't figure out, and something I can't deny.

Though haunting and less-than-stellar pasts, other relationships, and more have a way of constantly challenging this couple and testing them to the brink of survival.

Good debut novel by Emily Krat! I can't wait to see how Elizabeth and Ryan's story ends!

4.0 out of 5 stars Slow and sweet love story. 5 March 2015

A miscommunication that starts a journey to love.

When Ryan arrives in Moscow on business he thinks Elizabeth is "an assistant" sent by his brother. When he sees her he has an attraction towards her.

This story is told from Ryan and Elizabeth's POV and it helps you to get to know each of them individually. They both have secrets and lies from their pasts that they are not proud of. Elizabeth can't move past the grief of losing her parents. Ryan feels that he is not good enough and incapable of love due to things in his past. Can they come together and prove that each other is worthy of love?

This story moved at a slow pace but it worked. Ryan and Elizabeth needed that time to tell the story of their past. They worked to get past the demons and learn to live and love. There is just the right amount of angst, sadness, happiness and love to make the story flow. I also loved that the book was set in Moscow but covered Paris and other countries.

This book did not end in a cliffhanger but there is another story to come. Can't wait to see more of Ryan and Elizabeth and their family and friends.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible. Plus, this is a cliffhanger. No ending here. 20 January 2015

Who wrote this? Elizabeth is beyond terrible. She complains about everything. She ridicules everything Ryan does. Then the author tries to make Ryan into the one in the wrong. Sounds like the author has a lot of personal issues. Ryan gives Elizabeth a job then Elizabeth gets mad because he won't have an affair with her. Reverse sexual harassment? I am half way through and I can't stand this woman. She is beyond flawed and damaged. She is disgusting.
Everyone has past issues. But there are plenty of stories being written about strong women. This isn't one.
I will finish the story. But I'm betting it just gets worse.
It gets worse. I. can't get past the feeling the author is very young. Elizabeth is childish in every way. Like a teenager who thinks they have all the answers. She has zero maturity.
You won't like the end of the book either. Want to know? Buy another book.
