"To savor The Flavor Thesaurus fully it helps to think of its author, Niki Segnit, as a culinary marriage broker. An imaginative but practical matchmaker, she has a gift for pairing sometimes lackluster ingredients in a way that brings out the best in them and makes them more appealing as a couple than they ever were as loners... She shares an eloquent vocabulary with us in this delicious book." --Wall Street Journal
"The cure for dinner ennui...a cheekily erudite, endlessly fascinating master list of flavor pairings both familiar and surprising...the entries get you dreaming of both exotic feasts and after-work comfort foods." --Whole Living

About the Author
Niki Segnit had not so much as peeled a potato until her early twenties when, almost by accident, she discovered that she loved cooking. Much as she enjoys haute cuisine, she's not likely to attempt to reproduce it at home, preferring to experiment with recipes from domestic kitchens abroad. Her background is in marketing, specializing in food and drink, and she has worked with many famous brands of candy, snacks, baby foods, condiments, dairy products, hard liquors and soft drinks. She lives in central London with her husband.--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Whether you love to cook, but like me a little concerned about trying flavour variations of substitutes or just want a funny, entertaining read - this book suits to a Tee.
Open the refrigerator. A couple of leftover ingredients with no time to shop... in minutes we've got something delicious on the table, the wonderful thing is the book tells you when flavours don't go well together as well as when they do.
I've given it as a gift several times and the recipients love it. I bought the Kindle version today as it was a Kindle Daily deal so I could also have it stored on my iPad. Buy it - you won't regret it.

I have both the hardback and the Kindle edition, and though I would rarely say it, the Kindle edition has a slight edge if you were are reading just for reference purposes, as the hyperlinks let you switch quickly from one flavour combination to another - love the production values of the original though. Cannot recommend enough in either form.
This is for cooks who want to be more experimental and yet have a guide as to what goes with what.
This was a great gift ~ the birthday cook thought that it was BRILLIANT ~ what a clever choice I made.
Look up an ingredient and see what compliments it. Get to understand what you are cooking with and how flavours work with other ingredients.
