Wow! I love this series! I've just have my Steel & Stone fix to tide me over until Book 4.

This novella features Seiya and Lyre and I enjoyed getting to know them better. I am not a fan of Seiya and though she didn't win me over, I did get to see things from her perspective. There is so much more to Lyre than everyone sees and he shines in this novella. I love how he sticks up for Piper and doesn't give up when escape seems impossible.

Ms Marie's writing style is magic and it certainly kept me spellbound.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Closer Look at Lyre's Hidden Depth 19 March 2016
By Kristen Burns - Published on Amazon.com

3 Stars

As soon as this was released, I immediately bought it without hesitation. I don't have to stop to consider when it comes to this series.

All the same, I don't really consider this part of the series, if that makes any sense. To me it's just a little, extra side piece that I don't factor in when I think about my love for the series because it wasn't told from Piper's POV. And it was about what I expected, considering that.

The thing is, I don't like Seiya. I did understand her character a little more after reading this, but I don't think she'll ever be someone I love. That's ok though. Especially when...

I love Lyre so much! I love him in this I-really-want-to-be-best-friends-with-him kinda way. I've never felt that way about a character before. He's so fun and playful and loyal and kind. But it's becoming more and more clear that he's also intelligent and driven with a rich backstory of his own. This was definitely a different side of him, just one of his many sides.

Was this short story worth it? Absolutely! Anything and everything Steel & Stone is worth it to me, and the look into Lyre's hidden depth was interesting. But it still wasn't exceptional the way the other books are.

4.0 out of 5 stars (Not so) Patiently awaiting the next book! Hurry 25 July 2015

A great compliment to The Steel & Stone series. I appreciate the token to help tame my anticipation of Reap The Shadows. It's an entertaining glimpse into Lyre and Seyia. This peaks my curiosity to uncover more about Lyre's lineage and how this may lead to a deeper bond between the two.

Feed the Flames was great! I liked reading a story from Seiya's point of view, and I liked learning a little more about Lyre. Seiya is still not a favorite of mine, but I guess I dislike her a bit less now.
I really enjoy this series, and I cannot wait for the next book!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Little Gem 2 August 2015

When I say little, I mean little, it is a short story about what happens to Lyre & Seiya after they pass through the ley line at the end of the previous book, Yield the Night. Now, it may be small, but it certainly is bountiful in information about Seiya and Lyre. We read from Seiya's perspective and so we finally get to see the inner workings of that girl's head and what drives her to act the way she does! You would be quite surprised at some of her thoughts - I think Annette Marie has, once again, done a superb job of portraying a character's strengths and vulnerabilities. And I loved the insight into the dragonet bond, I had been wondering about that since the very first book! Pieces of Lyre's past are also revealed, opening up a whole new aspect of magic that I found fascinating. I'm beginning to believe Piper was right in thinking Lyre may have more secrets than all of them!

And of course it wouldn't be a Steel & Stone book without some good old fashioned fighting - even with this short novel you won't be disappointed in the action department, especially with Seiya's deadly precision!
