Product description

Product Description

Fix Your Makeup is the third novella in the Like A Lady serial. It cannot be read as a standalone.

It’s a summer fling; just keep telling yourself that and you’ll be alright. This thing with Mason Pierce, it’s just a fling, something fun to pass the time. He’s a rebound from the disastrous breakup, a band-aid, a patch over a wound that will help the hurt heal, right? ~Red

If someone had told me two months ago that I’d be spending the summer with Red Summers in my arms, I’d have called them crazy, but here I am and here she is. Life is just about as perfect as it can be. Except, it feels like she’s pulling away instead of drawing closer. Everyday, it seems that Red is putting more and more distance between us, and I don’t understand why. ~Mason

Favorite Quotes:

“It’s been a long damned grudge. Congratulations on hatred well played, but let’s just put it behind us and move on.”

“How do people just know this stuff? Like, is there a class where you can go and learn how to size people up? Do they pull certain kids aside during school and teach them these things while the rest of us sit in history learning about Abraham Lincoln?”

“You’ve ruined me, Mason Pierce. The way you make my heart race and my blood pound through my veins, God, I know that I’ll never feel like that again, and I’m scared. Scared of it all.”

“You’d think I was the devil in the flesh preying upon sweet, innocent children standing here with them in all my evil glory. If I threw fuel on the fire, they’d be trying to lessen the likelihood of me ever reproducing, and I definitely need those parts in working order for later.”

“I agree not to snatch any bacon with one hand behind my back, fingers crossed. Southern girls should never make promises about bacon.”

“That type of story is one told around three am under the cover of darkness and a bottle of wine. It is not for the light of day.”

My Review:

I adore this author and these characters! I want to be twenty-years-old again and hanging out with this fresh and sassy group all summer. I want Mary Lou to do my hair and give me a mani-pedi while Mason makes me s’mores. And while I despise beer and country music, I would possibly go with them to their wretched honky-tonk… but just with them. I had so many “Favorite Quotes” marked for this review… I had a hard time narrowing it down to 6!

5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal! Can't wait for the next one! 29 August 2015

S.J. did it again. Every time she manages to amaze me. Fix Your Makeup definitely didn't let me down. It had it all. Laughs. Love. Sex. From the start you are pulled in with the humor and complete realness of the characters. You can completely relate to one or more of them. Mason is one of my favorite book boyfriends with his sweet southern charm and I'm jealous of Red on a regular basis. Mary Lou is up to even more shenanigans which has me laughing the entire time.

Lots of major information is revealed in this book that puts their friendships and relationships to the test. Can they survive all that is thrown their way? You'll have to read to find out. I for one am counting down the days until Say a Prayer for the great finale of this serial.

Quotes :

"If anyone has the lady balls to do it, it'll be Mary Lou."
"Seems like sleeping with people's sisters is a common occurrence around here."
"Hell, I may have loved you before that, but I don't remember. I've only ever wanted you, Red. I'm never going to want anyone else. Just you."
"It's only ever been you, Red."
"What good are words? It's actions that count, and when your actions suck, your words can't make it any better."
3.0 out of 5 stars Wait until it's cheaper--and edited..... 3 August 2016

This is part 3 of an OK story (I've read all three), BUT:

1. I'm kind of getting tired of paying $12-15 to read the Kindle edition of a whole book. By the time I pay $3-4 per part, it's an expensive book. And not worth it, in my opinion. This isn't WAR AND PEACE, for pity's sake. Just write the darn book. And
2. I understand why self-publishing is attractive to writers, but this author (among others) needs an editor--badly. There are extensive grammar errors in all three parts of the series. For example, mean, gossipy old ladies aren't "bitties", they're biddies (singular = biddy). And, please, let's learn the difference between peek and peak. All three books are full of errors like this, and I think someone who proudly touts her degree in English Lit wouldn't make these mistakes over and over. Maybe I only notice them because I'm an English teacher, but they actually make it difficult for me to read. Surely there's someone who would edit for a small fee?

2.0 out of 5 stars I really wanted to like this book 8 September 2015

I really wanted to like this book.. the first in the series was suggested by a close friend. The way the story bounces from the views of many characters and different times in their lives, it makes it VERY HARD TO FOLLOW. I read thru all 3 of the series that are available to this date.. ... mainly because I always get caught up in a story line and HAVE to know how it ends.... not sure I will purchase the 4th since it is many months away... I am just not sure it would be worth the wait.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great Series 21 December 2015

I read the first not realizing it was part of a series. You can't read one without the others, because every books ends with a cliffhanger like the end of a TV series which drives me crazy! That being said I got so hooked that I bought all the available books in the series and pre-ordered the next one. I found the jumping from past to present sometimes annoying, but it gives you the background knowledge you need to understand what is happening in current day events. It's an easy read and the characters will attach themselves to your heart.

S.J. Sawyer is awesome, her Like A Lady series is brilliant and intriguing. Waiting for Say A Prayer ( Like A Lady Book 4), I know it will be way worth the time. Also, her other Series are just as good, she is definitely one of my top five favorite Authors :)
