5.0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming 18 November 2015
By Pamela R Mitchell - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I really enjoy reading anthologies because I get introduced to new authors I would have never discovered by buying a boxed set that includes one of my favorite authors. FIRST COMES LOVE includes OPENING HEARTS by Iona Findley. I loved every minute of this heartwarming romance between independent and strong Jessalyn O'Donnell and sexy smokejumper Sam Ricci. Highly recommended for all who enjoy a captivating read.

4.0 out of 5 stars and running late was the worst thing that could happen 18 November 2015
By Trisha Ellis - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
Trisha_Journey7 says:
Opening Hearts JESSALYN; starts out her day hectically, never dreaming that at the age of 35, having been celibate for five years that she would be told she was pregnant. Thinking that a broken heel, spilled coffee, and running late was the worst thing that could happen, boy was she wrong.,hunk, body to die for, a woman for each weak,smokejumper,27 and did i say sexy? Sam a seasonal firefighter, enjoys his job looking forward to doing it for the rest of his life. Sam comes back home after spending 4 months as a smokejumper, to help his brother in his business. Sam had no plan of settling down in fatherhood, just dreaming about the woman he met, had 3 awesome night of sex and would probably never see her again.
This story was well written, from beginning to the end. It flows well for a short read. The characters and supporting character lines were well supported, leaving no doubt who was who, nor what their thoughts were. Liked that all that was done so that you didn't get bored with reading. Very enjoyable reading, the story was done in a way that you could picture this really being someone's life story.
The intimate scenes have a few crude descriptions of the male (what you would call a rooster) but other than that the book was tactfully done which made it very enjoyable for me.
Powerful storyline as Sam does his rescue with is friend Jake. Pensive moments and suspense as well when Jessalyn falls... I don't want to give those scenes away, but when you read this you will know what i mean.

5.0 out of 5 stars Real life is so full of is Opening Hearts 18 November 2015
By Trish S - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This review is for Opening Hearts only.

WOW! I was really impressed with this book. I liked the premise of the story as laid out in the was different and drew me to want to read it. The book moved right along without a lot of the misunderstandings and constant angst of a lot of romance novels for which I was very grateful. There was some tension between the characters but nothing that was earth shattering. It was probably closer to real life than a lot that I've read lately. A very enjoyable read.

I liked our two leads, Sam and Jessalyn. Both characters reflect a tremendous amount of growth throughout the book...Sam probably more than Jess. It was interesting watching him move through the different stages of his growth. What I found so compelling about Jess is her strength of character and sheer will--she has buckets of it. Without giving anything away, let me just say that the last six chapters, or so, of the book pack a tremendous punch with plot twists that I didn't see coming. You will be sitting on the edge of your seat wondering how it's going to turn out.

This is the first of this author's works that I have read but I will definitely be exploring more of her titles. This is definitely a great read and one that you'll probably read more than once. Kudos to the author!

This is the only story I've read so far.

Touching Ed 5 Stars

Touching Ed is the story of Abby and Ed as they discover love at a "mature" age. Abby is 50 years old, divorced, and has one daughter, Louise. Ed is 62 years old, divorced, and has two sons.

Louise asks Abby if she would be interested in going to a Springsteen concert with a friend's dad, Ed. While Springsteen is her favorite singer, Abby has plans for that night. At her request, Louise gives Ed Abby's email address so they can talk about the concert. This leads to them meeting and falling in love.

At a "mature" age sexual difficulties are not uncommon. Ed suffers from Erectile Dysfunction(ED). Abby has a problem with vaginal dryness. Instead of letting these problems ruin their sex lives, they work together to overcome these hurdles. They try new things, get doctors' advice, and, most importantly, they talk about the situation.

I enjoyed this book. I like romances with mature characters. Middle aged people typically look at life differently than younger people. They have a lot of life lessons that only come with age.

The way Abby and Ed dealt with ED was realistic. Abby thought about ending the relationship because she didn't know if she wanted to invest in a relationship with a lackluster sex life. However, she realized how much she really enjoyed his company and how important he was becoming to her. Ed had doubts about how long the relationship would last since he wasn't able to perform on demand. Communication saved the couple from drifting apart. Through honest communication they were able to work together and save their sex life. If only all couples would really communicate with each other many relationships could be salvaged.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love collections. 18 November 2015
By Texas - Published on
Format: Kindle Edition
This review is of Opening Hearts by Iona Findley. Thirty-five year old, Jessalyn, meets 27 year old, Sam, while on a cruise. Their attraction is instantaneous and intense so they spend the next 3 days acting on it. The two reveal very little about themselves to each other including last names, so when Jessalyn learns she is pregnant she has no way to get in touch with Sam. Needing to revamp her apartment to accommodate baby, she hires a contractor, Marcus. When Marcus arrives to survey the job, he is accompanied by his brother, Sam! Plot conflicts include the age difference, Sam's dangerous other job as a smoke jumping fire fighter, his initial reluctance to become a father. The author moves the story along nicely so the reader wants to continue turning pages toward the climax. My only problem with the story is that several potential conflicts widely forecast, such as how Sam's family would react, were resolved, "off camera" with just a comment. I also felt the climax was rushed a little. It all resolved so quickly after such a big build up. That aside, I enjoyed this story. I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
