I'm not usually drawn to romances but, I really enjoyed this endearing and passionate romance.
The story starts out with Melissa, who is a news producer. She thinks her idyllic man is going to be someone in the arts or that has a "sophisticated" profession. Then, enter Harry who is a fire department Captain, who thinks Melissa is a far cry from his ex-wife, who broke his heart.
Melissa and Harry, meet when Melissa's grandmother buys a bachelor fireman at a charity auction, an auction where Melissa meets Harry and gives him the cold shoulder. Though, through some sort of fateful mix up in communication, Melissa and Harry end up on the date instead of the bachelor Melissa`s grandmother purchased for her. There is a strong attraction between the two of them, but Melissa is not sure what she really wants. Harry has to patiently prove that he is the idyllic guy for her.
Their relationship starts out as a friendship and progresses believably. Of course, there are some complications from the beginning. Harry and Melissa will have to deal with nasty, hateful and loud-mouthed co-workers, trust issues and misunderstandings.
There are two other minor storylines going on throughout the book as well. One which involves Melissa's father who has a history of alcohol abuse and one about a young foster child in an abusive situation. The foster child storyline is not as incorporated into the book as I would have liked, but the one about Melissa's dad is believable.
Overall, I enjoyed this book. As in all the books of this genre, there were predictable things in the book, but, I did enjoy it all the same.
