The number of languages that still lack any part of the Bible either completed or in progress has shrunk dramatically in the past few years. Creson says that “The beginnings of the final Bible translation programs is within our grasp,” and “this generation will see it happen: zero Bible translation needs; zero unreached people groups.”
No longer will isolated indigenous tribes have to read the Bible in a country’s national language, which is hard for them to understand. The scriptures will be available in every tribe’s own “heart language,” the tongue in which their mothers spoke to them. The Wycliffe organization predicts that could happen by the year 2025. The big leap forward is being made possible largely through the application of new computer technology to translation, as well as better methods of checking translations to avoid errors.
I have known about Wycliffe Bible Translators for many years, and I always enjoy hearing about their work. Though their primary field is scripture translation, they are also very practical about people’s needs for such essential things as good health and clean water. They consistently work to empower the people in the native cultures where they work.
I found “The Finish Line” uplifting, and I’m happy to recommend it.
of God, who give themselves unreservedly to their task.
