Film Pilot is a fascinating and detailed account of Jerry's journey from being a distinguished RN search and rescue pilot to becoming the 'go to' guy in the heady world of helicopter based film and cinematography.
This book takes the reader through the steep learning curve and differences between his experiences of saving lives on land and sea in Her Majesties' service,
(for which he received an AFC), and applying those same skills sets into placing the lens of a camera, rather than a man on a wire, to capture images from the unique platform of a helicopter.
From filming Music videos, to the burning oil fields of Kuwait, and the tragic aftermath of hurricane Katrina, readers of Film Pilot will also learn how Jerry Grayson and wife Sara negotiate their way into the worlds of Academy award winning film, into providing NASA and the International Olympic Committee with the same professional advice, planning and preparation used in his SAR work.
Buy this book and you will read, in first person terms the achievements of a remarkable man.

Interesting but somewhat ' I am '
Great read!Reviewed in Canada on 12 January 2018
This book is very well written in a style that is easy going. It is just as hard to put down as the authors first book! It provides a great look into the aviation film industry. It also hi lights the hard work and courage required to be self employed. It is a great book.
A timeline of film flightReviewed in the United States on 5 November 2017
My interest in Jerry Grayson's book arose from having family involved in the helicopter business. The author is obviously a very experienced pilot and film maker and continually refers to his successes as a film pilot. Written very much in the first person, Grayson may be ignoring some of the interesting background to his accomplishments. He tends to do too much name dropping rather than telling contextual stories of the characters that appear in the book from time to time. The foregoing criticisms take away from what would otherwise be an interesting narrative covering the early days of helicopter filming right up until today where drones have taken the work from some manned helicopter flights.
