It’s the Twenty-Second Century. Humanity has taken its first steps into the galaxy, and we’ve found ourselves in a vast playground of alien races, environments, and cultures. As the newest players on the universal stage, though, our position is readily apparent—we’re at the bottom of the food chain.
Welcome back to the Four Horsemen universe, where only a willingness to fight and die for money separates Humans from the majority of the other races. While some of the stories inside deal with mercenaries, others introduce readers to the other guilds, organizations, and races that make up the landscape of the Four Horsemen universe, and many of them provide background information to the mainline novels. There’s even a new form of life to get acquainted with and a look at alien interaction at its youngest level!
Edited by bestselling authors and universe creators Mark Wandrey and Chris Kennedy, “For a Few Credits More” includes sixteen all-new stories in the Four Horsemen universe by a variety of bestselling authors—and some you may not have heard of…yet. It’s a world where you can get anything you want. Some things, though, are only available for a few credits more!
Inside you’ll find:
Foreword by David Weber
“Butch and Sundance” by Peter Cawdron
“Where Enemies Sit” by Rob Howell
“Boss” by Scott Moon
“Leverage” by Josh Hayes
“Luck of the Draw” by JR Handley & Corey D. Truax
“Contract Fulfilled” by Tim C. Taylor
“Emancipation” by Mark Wandrey
“Forbidden Science” by Terry Mixon
“Change of Command” by Thomas A. Mays
“A Family Tradition” by Ian J. Malone

My mother said to me, "We should write a book for kids your age."
That was forty years ago. I was a twelve-year-old playing lots of Dungeons & Dragons, reading Karl Edward Wagner, Brian Daley, and Michael Moorcock. Jumping off the house to practice my ninja rolls was also a thing, but I digress.
Over the last four decades, I've submitted stories to traditional publishing, self-published novels, acquired book and audiobook contracts, and worked with some amazing collaborators (The Last Reaper with JN Chaney, Terran Strike Marines with Richard Fox, and Darklanding with Craig Martelle to name a few series.)
I love writing.
My life is simple—family and friends, reading and writing, and living a life full of imagination and adventure.
If you like science fiction, especially action-packed space opera, or urban fantasy, I hope you’ll check out what I've written. If you love my books, please leave reviews. The power is in your hands!
Be safe, and have a great day!
Scott

Find out more about Kacey Ezell at www.kaceyezell.net
Kacey Ezell was born in South Dakota in 1977. Her parents joined the US Air Force in 1984, and she grew up around the world on various military bases. When she was seven, her mother gave her a copy of Anne McCaffrey's Dragondrums, and shortly thereafter, Kacey decided that she wanted to be a dragonrider when she grew up. In 1999, she followed her parents into the "family business" and graduated from the United States Air Force Academy before going to pilot training. As dragons were in short supply at the time, she reasoned that flying aircraft was the next best thing. She earned her wings in 2001, and has over 2500 hours in the UH-1N and Mi-17 helicopters.
From the time she was a small child, Kacey made up stories to tell to her friends and family. In 2009, while deployed to Iraq, she wrote the military-themed supernatural story "Light", which was accepted for publication in the Baen Books anthology Citizens. She was asked to consult on John Ringo's 2015 novel Strands of Sorrow, and wrote the cover story for the Black Tide Rising anthology set in Ringo's zombie apocalypse universe. That story, "Not in Vain" was selected for inclusion in the "Year's Best Military SF and Adventure Fiction" anthology produced by Baen Books.
In addition, she's written a story for each of the bestselling Four Horsemen Universe anthologies, and her story "Family Over Blood" is included in the national bestseller "Forged In Blood" set in Michael Z. Williamson's Freehold Universe. It, too, was selected for inclusion in the "Year's Best Military SF and Adventure Fiction" anthology in 2018, and ended up winning the Baen Reader's choice award at DragonCon that year!
She and Christopher L. Smith are currently collaborating with John Ringo on a new post-apocalyptic steampunk trilogy from Baen, and her first solo novel, "Minds of Men" was released by Theogony Press on 10 November 2017. "Minds of Men" was a 2018 Dragon Award Finalist for Best Alternate History.
Kacey returned to the Four Horseman Universe to collaborate with Marisa Wolf on "Assassin", a novel about an alien race of felinoid killers-for-hire. "Assassin" is available now from Seventh Seal Press, as is "Weaver", a collaboration with Mark Wandrey.
Kacey writes science fiction, fantasy, horror, noir, romance... etc. fiction. She lives with her husband, two daughters, and two cats.
Peter is a New Zealand Australian science fiction writer, specialising in making hard science fiction easy to understand and thoroughly enjoyable.
His FIRST CONTACT series is topical rather than character-based, meaning each book stands alone. These novels can be read in any order, but they all focus on the same topic of First Contact with extraterrestrial lifeforms. In this regard, the series is akin to BLACK MIRROR or THE TWILIGHT ZONE.
Hard science fiction is a misnomer as far as categories of literature go, as it sounds harsh and difficult to understand, but that is far from reality. Hard science fiction is simply plausible science fiction, fiction that is written in such a way as it conforms to the known laws of science, and that makes it more interesting, as there's no magic wand the protagonist can wave to get out of trouble. Peter's forays into hard science fiction could best be described as informative science fiction or enjoyable science fiction.
Peter is a fan of such classic science fiction writers as Philip K. Dick, Arthur C. Clarke and Michael Crichton and their influence on his style and story lines is readily apparent. You can follow Peter on Facebook or Twitter or find him posting some interesting tibit on his blog http://thinkingscifi.wordpress.com/

His favorite is military science fiction. However, he also pens Zombie Apocalypse (ZA) in the form of his 2016 Dragon Finalist "A Time to Die", book 1 in the Turning Point series. The series is complete and available on Amazon, continuing with Book 2, "A Time to Run", and finishing with "A Time to Live", released earlier this year.
His most successful works to date can be found in the Four Horsemen Universe (4HU), which he created and now shares with a slew of incredible authors including his partner and publisher, Chris Kennedy. The first book in the series, Cartwright's Cavaliers, was his 2nd Dragon Award Finalist in 2017. In the 4HU, nine books were published in 2017, and 20 (yes twenty) more released in 2018. Among those was A Fiery Sunset, coauthored with Chris Kennedy, it was his 3rd Dragon Award finalist. Since then the series has continued to expand and branch out, including a YA series (Black and White). If you love Military Sci-fi, this is the series for you, with well over 50 books and more coming every month!

Chris Winder is a United States Marine Corps veteran who spent nearly half his eight years training other Marines in the fine art of field wire and switchboard operation.
Each class was dosed with a big helping of humor, which he learned is the key to helping people absorb and remember information. Therefore, Chris tries to sneak some humor into every book he writes.
His first novel, Cloud Development, is a technothriller revolving around a ten-year-old boy, his parents and the corporation his father works for. For years, LumoTech has been trying to unlock a dangerous secret and when their research targets the little boy as the key, his parents aren’t given much of a choice.
Chris lives in a small town in northern Arizona with his wife and son, (his two oldest, daughters, are grown and live in the greater Phoenix area), his two cats, (Squeaker and Max), and his elderly dog, Scout.
Rob Howell is the publisher of New Mythology Press (chriskennedypublishing.com/new-mythology-press/), including his work as editor of the Libri Valoris and Libri Mysteriorum anthologies of heroic fantasy.
He is one of the founders of the Eldros Legacy (eldroslegacy.com/) and an author in the Four Horsemen Universe (mercenaryguild.org). He writes primarily epic fantasy, space opera, military science fiction, and alternate history.
He is a reformed medieval academic, a former IT professional, and a retired soda jerk.
His parents discovered quickly books were the only way to keep Rob quiet. He latched onto the Hardy Boys series first and then anything he could reach. Without books, it’s unlikely all three would have survived.

A retired police officer, Josh Hayes is the author of the Valor Trilogy, the Tranquility series w/ Devon C Ford, Stryker’s War (Galaxy’s Edge), and The Terra Nova Chronicles w/ Richard Fox, along with numerous short stories.
His debut solo novel, Edge of Valor, was a finalist for the 2020 Dragon Award for Best Military Science Fiction or Fantasy Novel.
Ever since he watched his first Star Trek episode (TNG not OS), Josh has loved science fiction. Watching it, reading it, and writing it. He grew up a military brat, affording him the opportunity to meet several different types of people, in multiple states and foreign countries. After graduating high school, he joined the United States Air Force and served for six years, before leaving military life to work in law enforcement. During his time with the Wichita Police Department, Josh served as a patrol officer, bicycle unit, community policing officer, and was an assistant bomb technician on the Bomb Squad.
His experiences in both his military life and police life have given him unique glimpses into the lives of people around him and it shows through in the characters he creates.

Troy Carrol Bucher served thirty years in the U.S. Army, where assignments took him to three wars and places like Turkey, Albania, Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and Korea.
Troy holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and is a graduate of Seton Hill University’s MFA in Writing Popular Fiction program. Before traveling the world for Uncle Sam, he spent his childhood traipsing around the Verde Valley in Arizona.
He is the co-editor of "The Razor's Edge," a military SF&F anthology that explores the heroes and villains on both sides of insurgencies, for ZNB with author/editor Joshua Palmatier. His first Fantasy novel, Lies of Descent, was released by DAW in August 2019.
Sci-fi author Ian J. Malone has written in a variety of arenas over the years, ranging from public health to news and sports. When it comes to his fictional work, he’s a firm believer that nothing shapes a person’s writing like experience. That’s why he credits his tenures in radio, law enforcement, and military contracting for much of his inspiration, plus the legion of family and friends who’ve stood with him along the way.
Beyond writing, Malone serves as co-host of “The Dudes in Hyperspace Podcast” and is an avid fan of audiobooks (he’s legally blind). It’s also not uncommon to find him at a ballgame, a concert, or somewhere out by a grill.
Malone is an active member of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America and a resident of Raleigh, North Carolina — but he’ll always be a “Florida boy” at heart.

J.R. Handley is a pseudonym for a writing team. He is a veteran infantry sergeant with the 101st Airborne Division and the 28th Infantry Division and he is the kind of crazy that interprets his insanity into cogent English. He writes the sci-fi while his partner proofreads it. The sergeant is a two-time combat veteran of the late unpleasantness in Mesopotamia where he was wounded, likely doing something stupid. He started writing military science fiction as part of a therapy program suggested by his doctor, and hopes to entertain you while he attempts to excise his demons through these creative endeavors. In addition to being just another dysfunctional veteran, he is a stay at home wife, avid reader and all around nerd.

Thomas A. Mays (Tom) is an 23-years-and-counting veteran of the US Navy, working as a Commander in the surface fleet aboard destroyers and amphibious ships, as well as teaching and assisting with research into electromagnetic weapons and ballistic missile defense. His current position is as the Commanding Officer of Assault Craft Unit TWO, leading a crew of 300 sailors, chiefs, and officers in operating the Navy's oldest operational platforms, 16 of the 135-foot Landing Craft Utility ship-to-shore connectors. He has two degrees in applied physics, but his passion is writing (he tries not to let what he actually knows get in the way of telling a good story). "The Mutineer's Daughter", part one of the In Revolution Born series with author Chris Kennedy is due out in March, 2018. "A Sword Into Darkness" is his first published novel, but he is working on a sequel (among other projects), has produced a collection of his shorts in "REMO", and has short stories appearing in numerous magazines and anthologies. Tom usually lives wherever the Navy tells him to (currently Virginia Beach, VA), making a for his three precocious/maddening kids, an insane Hawaiian mutt, and a hot, geeky girlfriend he doesn't deserve. Tom's blog, The Improbable Author, can be found at: http://improbableauthor.com/
#1 Bestselling Military Science Fiction author Terry Mixon served as a non-commissioned officer in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division. Out of the 17 stories, I only LOVED one of them. Five more were good, 6 were ok, and 5 were meh..
Most, if not all of them involved Peacemakers in some way, and I'm not sure if that is influencing my opinion. It's like all the authors looked at Peacemakers, and went "Oh, Shiny! Must include them!"
The standout story for me was Tinkerman. I was hoping that the bounty hunter at the start of the story was going to become part of the story, so it was a surprise when she gets killed. It then became a mystery to be solved as to why Tee is wanted, and why they keep trying to bring him in. Very Western in feel, the show down in the Main street at the end was excellent.
I've yet to buy the next anthology, but I'll get it in Jan 2018 (possibly when the next book gets released as well.
Side note for Chris and Mark: Until you get the Wiki set up and the Compendium/Encyclopedia/Manual done, could you include an appendix of all the different races with a description. Too many of them sound so similar and it gets confusing as to what they look like.

One of my favorite scenes from a previous book, Winged Hussars, is when the hero enters a Mecha that has not been customized for his size due to an emergency, and gets pinched on his private parts. I have never read another series that is realistic with Mecha, in a way that adds to the story. It's not an infodump, which Mr. Weber who did the forward and is an amazing author is famous for, but rather adds in a positive way to the story.
The Tech Manual for the series is A+. I have read all the books, and its refreshing how the universe stays pretty consistent and authors are not allowed to do crazy stuff that ruins the universe. There are limitations and rules in the universe, which makes it realistic. There is no FTL, Anti Matter bombs, transporters that work between star systems, moon sized spaceships, etc.
Do you need to read any of the other 6 books first? No. This one is a good stand alone read. The stories in a Few Credit More flesh out more of the 4 Horseman Universe, so if you have read the other books this is a great addition.
Is there anything I would improve? Glossary of Aliens at the back, I get confused beyond on the characteristics beyond the Tortantulas (think 1950 era sized spider monsters, with armor and weapons), Flatars (coolest aliens in the series), and Minsha (had issues with Iran).

As usual in such anthologies, each reader will tend to have her or his favourite stories. Several stories are about inventions that could have military applications – such as Forbidden Science - or breakthroughs which could give one side a crucial advantage in a conflict as in Tinkerman. The later also happens to be one of my favourites as the hero, an ageing and retired CASPers mercenary is tracked down to his refuge in the North West of the United States on fake charges by those who want to get hold of his secret.
As usual also with this collection, you can expect appearances from Peacemakers – a sort of inter-galactic Police Force that sometimes seem akin to US Marshalls during the Far West. Some of them are honest and devoted to their job. Others are much less so and may go rogue.
Also, you will find the usual mix of alien species, including the vulpine and ferocious Besquith or Cochkalas, a mean badger-like species, among many others. Once again, my favourite story – and the shortest of all - is about a young of one of these alien species (the Tortantulas which resemble tarantula spiders) and its struggle to survive with the help of its little partner.
For strong stars for the whole lot and I am looking very much forward to the next anthology or full-blown novel.
