Product description

Product Description

Sometimes the only choices left are bad ones.
New city. New country. Lonely Lexie Carpenter finds a club online. Welcoming, beautiful, people. But they are monsters. They rip out her soul, dividing it into three pieces as prizes in the Club's occult lottery. Left for dead, Lexie is resurrected by a silver-haired young sorcerer. How ironic that he is a monster as well and may want to kill her himself.

The sorcerer's motives are Future Lexie's problem. Right now, death has only been postponed if the two of them can't find the Soul Eaters and put this broken girl back together. Lexie claws her way up the supernatural food chain collecting some odd allies on the way: a massive Shadow Hound with a taste for human flesh, a world-famous rock singer who happens to be a magical half-demon (that's a secret) and gorgeous (that's not), and two celestial Japanese spirits with too many secrets.

Lexie's paranormal learning curve quickly becomes slippery with the blood of demons and the damned. And in the battle for the first piece of her soul, Lexie learns the betrayals go deeper than she could have imagined. Blood deep.

This was a 5.5 stars for me. It is expertly written and the editing was pretty good.

The protagonist is completely credible with the flaws and susceptibilities that many of us harbour. This falls firmly into the YA/NA category, of which I read a lot, and there were no yawns for repetitive phrases and shallow glossing over of imagery and circumstances. The supporting characters add depth and complexity to a novel that keeps you guessing.

The novel is a slow burner and my attention span can be short at times, but this never lost my interest. Once it builds up to the real grit of the story, it drags you further in and maintains the urge to finish it now together with losing sleep. The author keeps adding new characters which keeps the tale fresh, with a good variety of personality types.

Let me finish up by saying that I'm desperately awaiting the next release in this series, and will definitely be checking out the writer's other works.

4.0 out of 5 stars Patiently waiting for book 2 17 May 2017

I was so surprised at how good this book was. At first I thought it was a simple mean girls story, but it turned into so much more. Soul eating, immortality, magic, this book has everything a paranormal reader will love. Really liked the main characters of Alexandria (tough female lead) and Julian(you'll find about him when you read). Can't wait for book two!!!
