Bishop was my favourite character in this story. He is so grumpy, says whatever he is thinking, and really doesn't give a crap about what others think of him (except Stevie and his brother Nolan). BUT underneath the moody exterior he is a good guy, he cares so much about his brother, and then Stevie as they slowly get to know each other. Some of his teammates seem to always think the worst of him, as he sees no reason to explain himself or his actions to them. Especially with Rookie, these 2 didn't see eye to eye on or off the ice.
I really wished Stevie would stand up for herself more - it drove me a little crazy by the end with her ex and brother that she didn't set them straight at times. Especially the Ex, he was such a douche. But overall I did enjoy the slow burn relationship development between Bishop and Stevie, it was a fun read with very low angst.
But I don’t want to detract from how awesome Bishop and Stevie’s book is. The slow burn of their relationship just about gave me anxiety. I just wanted them to get together already, and when they finally did I realized that their relationship just had to go at this pace. Stevie herself carries a lot of baggage and Bishop was fabulous in giving her the time she needed to take that next step.
I really do hope that there are more books to come. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
Stevie and Bishop have undeniable chemistry from the start - though their relationship doesn't start off on the right foot it certainly picks up speed and leaves you wanting more and not putting the book down until you have devoured it (pineapple, olives and all!)
Can be read as a stand alone.
I just love Bishop.
Thanks for the laughs.
I admired Bishop’s moral code and snorted how he got it wrong with the relationship between RJ and Stevie. I loved the way he looked after his own brother and his commitment to him. I cherished how he tried his best to be the best person around Stevie and I floved his gruffness and dirty mouth.
I don’t want to take away from Stevie, as she was just as awesome to read about. She too had a great family bond that I so appreciate. She also had a vulnerability that made her all the more lovable. She was somewhat sassy but oh so witty which again I was smirking along with them.
The storyline is one that most treasure. It’s a sports romance with a slight enemies then friends to lovers trope. They live across the hall from each other, where they met and have fun with dress codes and collecting their daily paper. There are a few reasons why they shouldn’t take their friendship to the next level and valid reasons. But when they do, yep super hot! In my honest opinion, I think everyone will find something to be crazy about with this book.
I loved the Pucked series and getting Violet and Alex in this series is a great tie in. But I love going in and falling for these whole new characters. And Bishop was just such a perfect hero, I fell for him straight away. He was so solid and dependable but he wasn't afraid to show Stevie his sweetness and try to be more for her.
And I loved Stevie. She was everything I like in my h's. She was strong and sassy but she didn't try to hide her vulnerability. The chemistry between Bishop and Stevie was crackling off the page even while they were still hostile strangers.
I have to admit that seeing her brother from this point of view made me not like him all that much. But then that just made me focus more on how perfect Bishop was. And I am really hoping there's a lot more to come.
Scarred by history & her brothers fame, I can completely understand why Stevie shuts herself off from the idea of pursuing something with an NHL player, but I was strongly pulling for these two from the beginning.
Bishop can just straight up be an a**hole! Albeit, with spunky underwear and a hot body! But he is also very private and closed off thanks to his past, so a colourful haired girl waking him up in the middle of the night with her noise was sure to bring out his bright side, right?
The snippy comments, rudeness and sarcasm were just par for the course and worked so well for these two characters and the baggage that they each have.
Once again, Helena proves she’s the queen of the Hockey romances for me & I will now be finishing this series and probably jumping into a reread of ALL her goodness!!

She never fails to write a book that not only keeps you hooked into the story but gives you characters that make you laugh swoon and feel everything they are going through.
This time we get Seattle hockey player Bishop (or Shippy if you wanna rile him up) story and his struggle to find his place on his new team. When hes woken one night with a disturbance in the hallway outside his house we can say hes a tad grumpy bringing out his worse side to the hot mess that Stevie.
Stevie is strong talented and struggling to find her place as herself not just as little sister to hit hockey player Rook.
Cue a fantastic journey of banter..friendship.. cute work out gear and hilarious boxers!
Didnt want to put this book down until I finished reading!
Stevie’s brother, RJ, is Bishops team captain and the two do not have an easy working relationship. This of course leads to a lot of testosterone infused moments.
Stevie’s ex is forever in the background with all his sleazy moments to add a bit discontent.
Loved how they learnt to understand each other and the positive way in which they used that knowledge to help each other be ‘better’ versions of themselves.
A little slow and boring in places.
I liked the hero tho.
The heroine was.. ok, but the whole drama about how being the sister of a famous hockey player ruined her life.. was annoying, to say the least. People, have real issues you know?
I liked the first book better, and I’m looking forward to the next one because I liked what I’ve seen of King’s character so far.
